New MG4 Shipment?

I would suggest you go to another dealer if they will not let her test drive, we had a test drive about 4 weeks ago, found out that we now wont be getting car till end of Jan instead of xmas, have asked for another drive and there has been no issue ( this is down to the random massive batch of cars produced for launch.)
As far expecting any better from Volvo , sorry to burst a bubble, look back at how all the manufacturers bury their head in the sand if there are issues and leave the dealers hanging to get the grief from customers and all manufacturers have bad / poor dealerships on the plus side here, there is feedback that MG are responding to these early teething problems and trying to sort out as quickly as they able to .
I think I might but slowly losing the will for MG if I'm honest. I'm aware of both company and the issues but all the feedback I've got with volvo is that they are handling issues through dealerships, acknowledging things going wrong directly from Head Office and not shying away like MG seem to be doing. From all I've read the dealerships have been great with people and issues but even they are lacking communication from MG on some issues.
I always felt I'd prefer to deal with issues from a cheaper car than a more expensive one but sometimes the perception of service and accountability a company can give just by the way they engage with the customer base can really make a difference.

Actually thinking about it they at Volvo with their care by volvo plans are more poised to handle issues than MG. Afterall the whole plans are built on the premise of if any issues we will solve for the customer without questions as that's what you're paying for so they must have a handy network of techs and mechanics to resolve stuff which will filter through to dealerships I guess.

What dealer are you using? Some are obviously better at communicating than others. MG on the other hand appear to be excelling at poor communication

On a side note and not specifically defending MG, have seen this back in the late 90's when Skoda were taken over by VW and found they suddenly had a product that lots of people wanted and were not exactly geared up to cope with the surprise of having such good reviews and the public responding so positively to it. The 1st Skoda Octavia produced by them was my 1st affordable new car and there were lots of similar ' complaints' about teething problems and poor head office support. I would not bet anything that within 10 years MG becomes a premium brand having sorted what I would currently call a small manufacturers / distributer. Volvo specifically mentioned earlier were in the same position ;)

Really good when you can't complain about their service though. Only MG messing it up for you then.
Went to dealership today to try and arrange a test drive for my missus and the sales exec kind of said no as I had already had a test drive.

I found it shocking, he said their demonstrators were on the go constantly and I had already had a test drive. I politely acknowledged and left. Such a shame as the only thing stopping me from cancelling the order is getting her in the seat which I know she'll like after experiencing it.

At the moment she's not too keen, I'm the one that's been pushing for the MG4 and she doesn't even know of all these issues. When we initially made a comparison of our options she said if the volvo has issues it's a more reputable company and she will feel more confident about the issues being resolved without qualms than MG.

She may just have been on to something.
Does she know Volvo is Chinese owned?

It's not about ownership, it's about customer service. Volvo has a well established UK/European service network and dealer support organisation. MG is catching up rapidly but is not yet as effective with what appears to be a bottleneck at Longbridge either due to central control from China or staffing issues.
We have to hope that MG continue to improve and hence threaten the legacy manufacturers.

Had the call from the MG sales guy at Holdcroft Warrington, my trophy isn't coming in November (well Durr) more likely to be December...I do appreciate the call though, being informed and having a live / open line of comms is priceless, so we wait.

I was thinking ETA would more likely be Mid Jan 2023 as order placed 01st Oct, estimated delivery back then was 12 to 16 weeks, (13 weeks would be New Years Eve) so Mid Jan makes sense. Only issue is that my trade in value may be sliding by then :/

It's not about the Chinese ownership. Its about the culture. Geely have done well for themselves generally with their takeover model but they have preferred to be the money men of operation and allow the companies they take over to do their thing just under the Geely umbrella. I mean in over 10 years they acquired volvo, volvo hasn't really changed to the world except you want to take a deep dive.

But the culture of Volvo built for nearly 100 years now still remains. I thing SAIC are trying to do same with MG but the $100m or thereabouts SAIC paid for MG is similar to what Geely paid for Lotus but both dwarfed by the nearly $2b dollars paid for Volvo. Which itself is dwarfed by an amount over 3 times that Ford paid for Volvo. Through all these ownerships, the owners have been smart enough to allow Volvo's dynamic leadership and corporate culture with a focus on practicality, luxury and safety to remain largely unchanged and that's the difference I think.

Her not being keen isn't about the Chinese. Its just about our options and what we had decided on previously but I now trying to change it because I'm looking at the financial angle more than she does or will. Not saying she's all about the wants, hell even she drives a Dacia Sandero Stepway under the ownership of Renault but just what we had discussed and agreed is what I'm trying to deviate from so I need to convince haha

There was nothing left of MG when SAIC purchased it, so it would be harsh to accuse them of changing it.

My dealer never contacts me. Ordered at the beginning of September and I’ve no idea if/when I’ll ever get it.

picked up our MG 4 luxury on Saturday. ordered in early October.

i dont understand where they could possibly be storing all these cars, my car docked one month ago today and i believe the transporter will go to drop it at another dealer then likely drove to the dealer i purchased from. no sign yet but there are multiple further ships arrived since and lots of people in the recent weeks on the FB group getting pickups

Cars from the ship that docked last Friday are already being released to dealers. Apparently there's a slight shortage of transporters, but not a huge one.

How do you know that? I have seen nothing that links my name to a car on the MG system, only confirmation that one of the spec concerned has been released to the dealer. It appears just to be their integrity that means that one will be mine at some point.
