Just some photos to show the UK Trophy does have 11kw 3 phase charging

But you need a proper 3 phase cable not the rubbish single phase one supplied with the car

Yes, I am surprised MG aren't more vocal about this feature of the LR models. The manual makes reference to 3-phase charging, but the marketing blurb doesn't. I guess they focus on the DC rapid charging speed instead which is understandable and is what makes headlines.

And another much the same

Yep, with a proper 3 phase cable it's 11kw, and I believe it's here to stay and not just the early ones.
There was much comment that is was just the first few, it seems to have stayed and be present on more recent ones without the driver drowsy camera.

Is your peak charging power about 9.7-9.8kW as shown, or does it go any higher? I get about 10.3kW average from our work 3-phase Zappi in an early Trophy, which may be due to environmental conditions etc.

Max I've got on the 3 phase work charger was 9.86 kW, and only watched for the first few minutes of the charge. I've only tried the one 3 phase charger though, all but this one are 7kW.

Yes it tops out just over 10kw.

Am finding 6.8kw about max on a 7kw charger and 10kw max on 11kw.

Not sure if its reporting Input at charger or input to battery after conversion
and losses

So the type 2 one MG sells us is a single phase type 2 cable not a 3 phase one? Can you use them interchangeably? Any point in getting a single phase one if not?

Sorry this will be my first EV and this is first time I'm come across this single vs 3 phase wire thing.

if you get a 32amp 3 phase cable it will give you 11kw on a 3 phase charger and 7kw on a single phase

Beware of 16amp 3 phase cables as that will give you 11kw on a 3 phase and only 3.2kw on a single phase

a 7kw single phase cable will onlygive 7kw on a. single or 3 phase charger

So for best results a 3 phase 32amp is best (Unless you never plan on using a 3phase)

Great thanks. I'll cancel my type 2 wire from MG then and look for a 32amp 3 Phase one then.

I appreciate the help as I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and. Not have it.

So, as a as yet carless newbie, can I just get this clear.
For a MG4 Trophy,
I can use a 32A 3 phase type 2 cable at any AC chargepoint, whatever the max output of that chargepoint is?
Would I be right in assuming that if I were to use a 7.4kW charger, I could expect a charge rate of up to around 7kW max but could use the same cable at a 22kW charger and expect a charge rate of up to 11kW?

Yes, yes and yes. 6.6kW is commonly reported by people as a real-world charging rate and something around 9.5kW for the 11kW case.

Oh...I've just read this on EVCables website:

Important Note About 11kW Cables: 11kW cables (3 Phase, 16A) are not usually ideal as a general charging cable in the UK. This is due to the fact that most EVSE (Charge points) in the UK are single-phase only. This would cause your 11kW cable to charge at 1 phase, 16A which is a 3.6kW charge rate, the slowest you can get! Most users would benefit more from a 7.2kW charging cable or the heavier 22kW charging cable.

So, according to that, a 32A 3 phase cable will only give me 3.6kW charge rate on a single phase charger :(

EDIT Like a twit, I didn't notice this was aimed at 16A cables not 32A ....soz 😌

It is easily done. The worst thing about EVs is the totally unnecessary complexity and choices in things like this.

Sloucher. Just noticed your new signature.
Yeh, feeling a bit jaded and let down at the mo.
Promised collection next Monday of an "in stock" car, only to be told that "due to a shortage of drivers" it won't be ready for a while yet. I translate that to mean it's really still dockside at Portbury

Unfortunately the shortage of drivers excuse could be true. There is a shortage of HGV and PCV qualified drivers across the industries at the moment but it isn't an excuse for dealers making promises they can't keep.

That could well be true. As you say though, it's being misled over the car availability that's angered me the most. It's my second time of being let down by MG sales - three times if you count my original abortive attempt to by a ZS.
