New MG4 Shipment?

Hmm... sounds like dealer spin for "we might be getting a car sometime soon, let's overpromise to get the deal done".
To be fair he told me the date the boat was docking, but I haven’t had (or asked for in his defence) any VIN numbers or solid proof the car exists. It’s a big game of trust and I’m sure it’ll all pay off for everyone

In case it's useful for somebody the car came with a granny charger and no driver monitor camera.

I planned to test whether it has a 3-phase charger before ordering the cable but surprise surprise the only tethered type 2 charger close to me is BP pulse and wouldn't work so I've just ordered a 3-phase cable anyway.

I am still getting "rumblings of the dealer". Every week they are in touch to say "not yet, but more coming next week, stay tuned". I am beginning to think they are torturing me.
My dealer never calls , i feel left out. I was told a date to collect, which was two weeks ago but it didn't materialise. I now think that was the date they arrived in the UK. I've got a VIN number and it's been "at the port" for ages.

I think there are a few issues combining to create this mess.

1. high demand
2. limited supply
3. poor communication between MG, the port, delivery companies and dealers
4. Dealers taking orders for cars they don't have access to, in case they have cancellations they want to keep their order books populated.

A dealer showed me the MG screen on the system and it shows cars, colours, model ect, where they are , factory, ship, port and then after port i appears to be some king of lottery as to what is transported to dealers. He did make one point which was interesting in that not all dealers are equal and some dealers seemed to get regular deliveries earlier than he was. Maybe some of us picked the wrong dealer!

This all leads to frustrations as no one in the process can offer anything like assurances that turn out to be true. The current unrest in China may have some additional negative impact.

I could have bought almost any other make of EV and have it on the drive by now.

Im learning new levels of patience which my family are appreciative of.

I pre-ordered a blue trophy in early August. My dealer said I was #3 on his waiting list for the MG4.
The order books actually opened August 19th, which means that today is the end of week 15 for me.
The dealer hasn't made contact since inviting me to drive their demo car months ago.

I was told 21-Oct at the dealer, 26-Oct collect. (Ordered on 08-Oct). However I reckon 21-Oct was the port dock date. I actually collected mine on 25-Nov, so just over 4 weeks after docking. (And yes, I was given the VIN as part of the order pack).

Prove it. I don't believe you - not brand new anyway.

Have people called their dealership, I know the dealer "should" be keeping you up to date, if they don't then I don't have the patience to wait to hear for weeks on end.
I ordered on 2nd Sept and I'm lucky enough to have got my Trophy on 11th Nov. That's pretty good I reckon.

To the thought that you could have any EV by now @Splodgie , the reality of my experience is not new, I waited 11 months for an ID3 to be told it wouldn't be until July next year (that would be 22 months from order) before I gave up and switched to an MG4.

I get it's frustrating and sympathise with the lack of info you are getting, my suggestion would be to proactively contact your dealership to get more info, confirm if it's ship date or dealership etc.

You will learn to be patient, that or frustrated the choice is yours 😉.
Third option is the shooting yourself in the foot option of cancelling as other than the MG5 and ZS EV there's nothing else at the price point.

My small MG dealer (Gallagher's of Sandycroft) has been freshly prodded this lunchtime.
Still no date for my car, and I learned that they've only handed over one* MG4 (an orange trophy) since deliveries began! 🤯

* -I inferred this from being told I was third on their list in August & second today.

We ordered our MG4 in Sept and after several chasing phone calls we have been told it is in the country at the start of last week and when they called us back at the end of the week it was not in the country. Ended up going to another dealer to see if I could swap the order to them as I am not impressed with the place I did the original order with. The new dealer said its highly unlikely any orange Trophy will be hitting the uk before the new year. When I placed the order I was assured they would have it in stock within 8 weeks, well thats been and gone. Dealers are getting the grief from customers because of MG's poor management of the situation I think.

I think my dealer is spying on me on here...

Just had a call to say the current estimate is the end of February. If that proves in any way accurate then I guess waiting until the new reg in March would make sense?
