Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

My calling wires cables is a hang over from years as an auto electrician late sixties to eighties 😊

Thanks 👍 I’ve just dismantled the plug from the other end, and there is a resistor there as well, exactly the same set up?
Doesn't it depend how thick the cable/wire is as to what it's called? (I'm not a sparks but my SO used to be & thinks so.)

Not sure. Google says:
“The basic key difference between wires and cables is that a wire is a single conductor whereas a cable is a group of conductors.”

I made my own by changing the resistor in a type 2 cable and swapping the end from a type 2 to a commando. Does the job fine. I've not pushed the limits yet but have had a 1.7kW space heater run off it for a few hours to heat my garage.

Being a numpty with electwizardry. Is it cheaper to run an electric heater off the car and then recharge your car. Than use the heater from the house electric?

Kind of... I pay 5p / kWh (not for long!) for my off peak and 30p for peak hours. So if I use my heater in the day time off my car and then charge it back up off peak, it reduces my guilt levels for heating my garage when it's cold!

That is true Dr I totally forgot about you lucky people with an off peak tariff or a charge for free at work or something so sorry viper if I mislead you. Everyone’s different you see.

I've made up the type 2 connector end so now just need to put the 3 pin sockets on the other. Anyone have any advice on the best way to strip the large multi-core cables? I'd usually use a stanley knife but there's always the danger of cutting the inner cables insulation which I really want to avoid.

When I cut with knife I don't cut all the way through just all the way round then bend the cable it sort of rips the last bit so cables inside are untouched
Yeah that's what I usually try and do but can be easy to go too deep sometimes.

Honest question for anybody that might know. This is regarding on getting a latest software update eg so you could using the V2L without it being switched on and havong the doors unlocked. Do you have to pay to have this done if its not done during an annual service. I've bought a V2L. I tried it out using a vacuum cleaner. If you turn the car off it does work for a bit. But after a while if you switch it back on it does not. Would the update solve thus? Although I think I read it might stay discharging as long as some is continually drawing a charge so perhaps you could keep a small light plugged on and in. I bough it for in addition to occasional use away from the house, any power cuts for a few hours that may occur. In such circumstances I could at least run power in the front room where we could 'camp' until the power cuts over.

If you mean stripping the outer insulation away from the inner wires, I use a small pair of side cutters, just nibble down along the length of the cable for a couple of inches, then pull the insulation away from the inner wires and snip it off.

The cable was much easier than expected so a stanley knife was fine. The inner cables are protected by an inner sheath which makes it much easier to spot when you get to them. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
