Procedure to reset binded car from unknown user

Good day @Miles Roberts CG

I hope you are well. I am John... I just would like to ask for help as I am very desperate and getting frustrated. I am also getting problems with binding my car and saw you've been a great help with this matter

I purchased a used ZS EV last week and got it Thursday. Everything is okay aside from binding the car to my MG iSmart App. I have contacted customer service and told me to get back to the dealer. The dealer needs to contact the previous owner to unbind the car, which they told me they have done already. But still, I can't bind my phone. I have been trying for few days now already.

I called customer service again and ask me to send an email an to [email protected] but still, I got no response.

Here are my details:
Name: John Timothy Bautista
Registration: YC72 CUA
Model: MG ZS EV
Color White

Hopefully you can help me please. I know it is unfair to ask you about this as I did not purchase the car through you but I am really getting desperate.

I am looking forward to your positive response regarding the matter. Please help me.

Thank you and God bless.

Kindest regards,
John
This was sorted this morning.

For everyone else's information, if you need a car unbinding, I need proof of ownership (ideally V5C, showing VIN number and owner's name/address). Email to [email protected] - I'll forward to MG to get the binding reset.

great job done miles
Agreed 100%.
Thank you Miles ( and your engineer friend at Longbridge ) for the continued support you offer members of this forum.
It should not have to be this hard, surely though ?.
Thanks again 👍.

That's what we did. My Note 10+ would not read the QR code. My wife's I Phone 6 S would read it. So we used that and then I logged in just using the password.

I swapped my Exclusive for a Trophy Connect extra demonstrator on Thursday. I have spent all afternoon trying to bind to iSMART to no avail until finding this forum.
Back to dealers next week and will let you know. Frustrated: yes.🤬

So I registered the phone and connected to the smart app but unfortunately I had to reset the phone to factory settings. So when I loaded the ismart app I had the same this car is already connected to unbind go to app but it didn't appear. So left it a few days and unregistered then went through the process of registration and suddenly there was a setting for unbinding which it did. I then went to the car rebinded and hey presto it works. Hope this is of some help.

I have exactly the same problem. Picked up demo Trophy Connect (with sun roof, which was the clincher) to replace 3yr old Exclusive. Loved the Exclusive but the Trophy is another generation on. Many of the little niggles have been addressed and the extra 100 miles range us a bonus. Nice touch is the USB slot by the mirror which makes installing a dash cam a dawdle.
However, I have spent hours trying to connect to MGismart to no avail. Have returned it today and waited for a couple of hours only to be told that they have to contact MG head office and they’ll get back to me. I mentioned the forum and was told dismissively “ you can’t believe everything on these forums” 🥴

@Exdro
That was very unhelpful of the dealership - I have found this forum to be superb with problem solving, hints and tips. It’s obvious to me that the ‘experts’ are the people who drive the MG’s, rather than the people who just sell them!
I don’t know how many forum members there are, but they are definitely knowledgeable.

Thank you for your comments Susanna your correct to say as you did most people here can more knowledge about there vehicles than lots of dealers and Miles Robert’s is as always a great help when he can be. But he’s an exception.

As you have a demo model somebody has what is now YOUR car, still binded to that car on their phone !.
That is why you are unable to bind YOUR phone to the car yourself.
IF somebody at the supplying dealership is still able to unbind their phone from the car, then get them to do so and you will be then able to bind YOUR phone to the car after.
The problem you have, is because it’s a demo model, any test driver MAY have thought it was a good idea to bind their phone to the car without any traceability.
If this is the case, then you will need the help of MG Tech who will then be able to unbind THAT unknown persons phone from the car.
THEN you will be able to bind your phone.
Miles has successfully done this for other people in a similar situation, via a very good friend and contact at MG CS.
It’s a shame that certain dealers are not as helpful and supportive TBH.
It really is a shame that some dealers unfortunately have a built in, total disregard and real hatred of forums like these, but have then been caught out by the lack of knowledge they hold on certain EV subjects.
We have to remember that some Tech’s in these dealerships, had never even SEEN an EV before the ZS EV arrived on site for the first time, never mind worked on one !.
Head for a dealer who has had experience on working on EV’s prior to the arrival of the ZS EV would be my advice.
The dealers who have EV Tech’s who have worked on the earlier EV’s like the Nissan Leaf etc.

I contacted the dealer and said that I would reject the car as not fit for purpose. That got them moving. It has been back in and the software analysed and sent to MG. It now goes in on Monday for software update. I will keep you posted. Tx for all replies so far.

God bless you and people like you, Miles.
I've called MG Bishopbriggs in Glasgow asking for help for this binding predicament and they were more clueless about this rather long-time, ongoing issue, and/or how to resolve it, than I am now, after joining this forum!
I sent you an email today and keeping my fingers crossed.
Many thanks for your kind assistance in advance.
