MG4 Range

Battery heating does stay off on my SE standard. Really gobbles the electrons and I haven't had a need to rapid charge to date so it's staying off.
At the start of this month I struggled to get more than 3.3m kWh, today in 12 degrees with a small amount of cabin heating I easily cleared 4m kWh over 40 miles of mixed driving.
Actually really pleased with that result, I could see 5m kWh being on the cards come summer.

I am nowhere near being an eco driver.

I've almost always had some form of warm / quickish car, but on my commute to work for the last 4 days I've been seeing what kind of figures I can get out the car.

On the way to work I travel on 30mph roads, its just under 8 miles so not long a journey.
The first two days the temp was 5C and the last two days it was 9C. Got better as the week went on.

I haven't taken picks of the journeys home at midnight though, motorway, radio and heating blaring, sport mode etc... lol.

Did a drive to the shop this evening. Massive difference it made it with battery heating off. Barely lost any percentage or miles on the trip. Will keep an eye on it over the next few days to see how effective it is over more miles.

That's really pretty good, I've noticed 5 miles / kWh show up on the display if you're doing a lot of lower speed stuff .
My undertray droops like pouting toddler's lip and I'm trying to convince my neighbour to 3d print me some covers for the front air intakes, I'm thinking some refinements in these areas might regain another 20wh / mile ?
In this weather the coolant loops for the motor and battery are totally redundant, I think they might be for 9 months of the year up here TBH 🥶

Hello (first time poster).
Thanks for any help with this. I don't want to start another new thread for range, so will piggyback off this one!
I received my new car last week but the range seems completely off.
My ismart app this morning shows a full charge of 170 miles for a Long Range 100% charge. This is only 60% of the 281 expected (okay, I know I wouldn't get 281 but this seems excessively low, no?)
Does this seem correct to everyone? The temperature is 2° outside, so not excessively cold.
Thanks
Mark

Have you reset the Guess O Meter (GOM)?

Turning off intelligent battery heating has seen my range improve massively. I mostly do short journeys and it doesn't seem to be helpful for those.

Intelligent battery heating seems to be catching a few people out, obviously you realise you are not going to get near that 280 mile range at this time of year, it will be a good bit lower

Turned off Intelligent Battery Heating, reset the GOM and as if by magic... 280 miles.

That would mean getting around 4.7 miles / kWh and using all of the battery capacity. It's lies I tell ye...all lies !!
Knock 100 off that for a more realistic number with some margin to get home.(y)

I’m not sure people understand that resetting the trip computer will temporarily show you max range but as soon as they start driving it will work out the real number. It’s a bit like resetting your ICE trip computer while coasting downhill and saying “ooh look my car does 99mpg”

Don't have the car yet (nor owned an EV at all yet) but I've learned that from these forums 👍

Along with the fact that sellers of EVs need to be more up front about real world range.

A hell of of a lot of people come on to these forums disappointed when they are getting 30% less than the quoted WLTP range, which it turns out is far from unheard of in winter temperatures and on 70mph (plus?) motorway journeys.

When the weather warms up I suspect this thread will get quieter 😉

The same guy at my local dealer reset my car whilst it was in for the recall. Since he charged it too, I wasn't about to argue, but I don't see the point. I figured the longer it goes the note accurate it'll be. I guess it might make sense to reset as you move between seasons.

Something doesn’t reckon up here
MG4 standard range 50 kw battery
217 miles according to WLTP
MG5 mk1 SR 50kw battery goes
214 miles so ok very similar that’s true for same size battery

MG5 trophy 61.9 battery 230 mile of range
MG4 Se LR 64 kw battery 281 miles
Around 50 miles more for 2/3 kw of battery we will see 2 different cars I know but not that much difference.

What is the drag coefficient of the MG4 Vs the MG5?

Interesting - the MG5 Trophy also does 15 miles less that the MG5 SE on WLTP. The useable capacity on MG4 and 5 is the same - around 61 kWh
