Hi, Is anyone having difficulty in registering with Octopus Intelligent? We have gone through 2 weeks of trying via email. And was told to go through the charger access and MG 5 was there but we don’t have an OHme charger. Ours is an Myenergi Zappi. Now told that our MG 5 EV is not compatible at all on Octopus Intelligent. Yet they use the MG 5 in their social media ads!

Thank you! Octopus were taking a day and an age to give us a quote for a charger at home, so we went with a local company!

The zappi is reportedly going to be compatible soon.
Hi,
When you say soon, do you know how long or how soon?

I am looking to order a charger now and spoke with Octopus today but it got so confusing as I want to use my solar panels to charge and I am still no clearer whether an Ohme will do that or not

Several people had suggested 'soon' including at least one that's implied they're on a trial/test. Octopus may be able to give you clearer info.

Those on Octopus salary sacrifice can pay to 'upgrade' the included charger to a Zappi for future solar/battery compatability. I can't imagine octopus being so short sighted as so lead their customers in the direction of a product they don't be supporting for Intelligent. Like Tesla, Octopus are a technology company, its all about the software and technology and selling that to other companies, us customers are just along for the ride.

Afraid it’s a no, Ohme confirm they don’t support solar panel integration/put solar charge in.

Ohme doesn't do the net zero export version of solar charging in the way that Zappi and others do. But they do offer various fixed low charge rates which approximate to your net generation.
There's general disagreement as to whether the entirely variable net zero export is a good thing as in some conditions it can stop and start often which some say is bad for the car.

I'm just sorting mine now. I have been told that it's only the Ohme charger that recognises any EV.

Zappis are having a few issues integrating with some new cara, I know there is an issue with the new Megane Etech and zappi (an issue entirely with the zappi) my energi have taken a couple of Meganes into the factory at Grimsby and are working on it, could well be doing the same with octopus intelligent.

Through a cock up by octopus I missed going on the last go faster tariff. All the other plans, including this (though I didn't even have the right charger!) were not great. I ended up on a econ 7 plan (forgot they were still around) My plan is to get solar panels this spring before this plan expires in Oct but then got thinking this old plan could work well with panels. It's a theory but something to consider

Ironically we have an Octopus branded EV charger installed in 2018 that doesn't support Intelligent. Met with deafening silence when I asked about a sideways migration from EO.

Our Honda E isn't compatible either as we too have a Myenergi Zappi rather than the OHme home charger. We're on Octopus Go tariff instead which gives 4 hours off peak cheaper tariff.

Hi I have solar panels with a battery and am also on economy 7.

Did approx 7500 miles in my MG 5 EV and total cost of charging using the granny charger between April and October when Solar was good total cost £200:00 for a year with the majority home charging and the odd charge when out. The above set up works very well for me. I even did 1.5 hours granny charging yesterday in Norfolk. I also have a podpoint solo when the sun don’t shine.

I went with Zappi as installer suggested works great with solar panels

I have Zappi as I bought it because I have solar panels

But I cannot find a utility company that allows a cheap night EV rate AND allows you to sell excess power back to the grid

Does anybody know of one?

You can get Go for 12p/kWh for 4 hours or Intelligent Octopus for 10p/kWh and sell excess at 4.1p/kWh

Octopus have their hands rather full at the moment whilst taking on Bulb customers!
Intelligent Octopus only offers 4.1p per Kw if you export from solar to the grid, whereas Outgoing Octopus gives 15p but with that tariff you can't have either Octopus Go OR Intelligent Octopus!
Caught by the short and curlies!
Next Ohme did 'promise' me that they would be incorporating solar 'in the future'!
So for me with solar and an EV, I will stick with Outgoing and my Hypervolt charger, which I have had NO problems with, regular updates over the air, happy with my Wifi connection, all in all a throughly recommended charger. Zappi is good but I hear of problems with them and to be honest I hear of problems with Hypervolt, but my experience has/is excellent, as opposed to a good friend who has a Zappi which continually looses connection and has to be rebooted to restore a connection. A software/firmware update looks to have solved this though, which is good.
