Positive Vibes for the MG4

Why bring race into it ?
What, with Teutonic? No racial slur implied – just that the big SUVs built by German manufacturers are the ones preferred by the type of driver who likes to dominate others (regardless of the driver's actual nationality). I speak as a specialist in German translation and a fluent German speaker with many German friends – and only because they say exactly the same thing!

If you've ever driven on an autobahn in a "lesser" vehicle (e.g. a hired but quite high-powered Ford Fiesta, as I did on one memorable journey down to visit VW in Wolfsburg, subsequently often repeated in my – fortunately more robust – Dacia Duster), you'll be quite familiar with the "you've overtaken me in your puny jalopy, minion, so I will now crush you" syndrome. Sadly not restricted to German (let alone Teutonic) drivers – there are plenty of them here in France and over there in the UK, not to mention Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands. And (almost) always in German-manufactured SUVs...

But if I inadvertently offended anyone with my remark about "Teutonic", I apologise.

No, normal EVs really aren’t great after about 60, acceleration diminishes.
When my did perform properly, getting to 100mph did take a while.
Torque gets you off the line quickly, but for speed you'll need power. The MG4 is lively up to 60 mph, but above it gets a bit tough. It's fine for what it is though. It's almost exactly the same as my old BMW i3.

The i3S is another itch I might scratch.

Hi All
I was recently thinking about cars I have owned and compared them to the MG4. There a couple that stay in my mind. The MG4 has same sort of feel and attitude as a Talbot Ti Sunbeam (1600twin Webers) I thrashed incessantly and put plenty of miles in. The comparison is I enjoy the MG4 in the same RWD way as the Sunbeam and drive for driving’s sake. The MG4 is a car for all drivers whatever your flavour/style driving.

I genuinely can't wait to receive delivery (in 3 weeks or so). I was on the fence between a Qashqai and MG4 (probably 70/30 Qashqai), then drove them back to back as the dealers are next door to each other (MK). I only drove the MG4 for 10 minutes and knew instantly that I wished to go for that and had the itch to get back in it for the rest of the day.

Used to race a bit karts, track days (Elise, BMW 135i) and I've not been so excited to get back behind a wheel again. Felt a bit like an electric kart from the brief test drive. Hope it lives up to expectation/excitement when it arrives :)

Glad this thread has been resurrected, bringing back a bit of hope after reading so many problem posts.

Picked up my MG4 yesterday and am really pleased - it's great to drive. My third rear wheel drive car, look forward to trying some country roads too.

To be honest it was a fair relief after reading this forum over the past few months that it hasn't locked me inside, the speakers are OK (not great), the smart app has bound etc. But I appreciate knowing all the things to look out for, extra stuff to get and in general just enjoy reading, so thanks all.

There have been one or two glitches - the radio has sometimes switched to carplay without warning (maybe a loose cable?) and the ismart app has crashed once. However as a software developer myself I can understand a bit of that sort of thing, hopefully updates will continue to improve things.

Still need to look at whether lane keeping etc. can be kept down/off or how much of a faf it is to change every drive.

The 4 is my first EV. So, whilst I love the space and the quiet (still not used to hearing other car's tyres!), the interface and the AndroidAuto, the car's style and the tiny turning circle, the one thing I'm absolutely loving is the acceleration. Pulled up alongside an ICE the other evening, he was clearly setting himself up for a speedy getaway. I had some fun and by the time I'd hit the 40 limit he was a vague memory in the mirror.
Entirely infantile, but oh so much fun.

I love the drive so much I’m thinking about going to the office more often just so I can drive my commute 🤣
Test drove quite a few EVs in the cheaper range, owned a second gen Leaf, the only two that took my fancy were the MG4 and the Cupra Born. At one time I was worried I would be disappointed with my decision to go with the MG4 Trophy, but no, very happy with it and a few grand left in the bank account to spend on road trips!

Absolutely loving driving my new MG4.
The acceleration, ride handling, quiet interior and that slightly smug feeling you get when you think about your move towards a greener alternative.

The only issue I have is that my wife and I keep fighting over who gets to drive it next…

If you are worrying about whether you are making the right move going for an MG4, all I can say is that I have no regrets.

Love this! I'm fully remote, though no charge point at home, only the office. So, I'll be heading in one day a week, once the car arrives. May end up taking the scenic route 😊

What is infantile was the other car thinking he could out accelerate you.
I often use a road that has 2 lanes merging into 1. And in my previous ice car was constantly getting cut up by other drivers who would not respect the 1 for 1 often 2 or 3 trying to squeeze by.
But no longer. The MG4 acceleration makes sure of that.

Well said. Me neither.
Have to add that I absolutely love the styling.

I have the Trophy, done 4 long trips and several shorter, 1500 miles, some things a bit quirky but overall very good and very high on the smug meter as I can charge off solar when at home. The added bonus is that it is quick off the mark. The winter range can be down to 160 miles but if you are aware of that then hello to the journey to EV and I cannot see me going back.

Yes same here. Some people say that they don't like the styling of the rear. But I actually like it best of all.
And the styling of the inside is very good as well.
