[ Coulomb edit 2: See also version 2.xx.5 in this post. ]
[ Coulomb edit 3: The link immediately above now has version 2.8.0, also called V2.8. Discussion here. ]
[ Coulomb edit 4: Version 2.9.0 is here. ]
[ Coulomb edit 5: Get the latest version using Google Play Store; search for eZS. On an Android phone, click here. ]
[ Coulomb edit 6: MG5 owners (and probably others) can also use the CarScanner app for various data including most ECU firmware versions; see this post. ]

Function
See this post for data of screen-shots.

Requirements
1. Android system (phone, tablet, Amazon fire) with working Bluetooth.
2. Bluetooth OBD2 device with ATPPS 1.1
- cost £5 to £20.
Some people reporting instability and errors in recordings best to purchase OBD2 device with PIC18F25K80 chipset.

Procedure
1. Install the apk on the android phone or tablet,
2. Plug the Bluetooth OBD2 device into the car OBD2 port, (on ZS it's a little below the bonnet pull release in the driver's foot well, line up device and push into it)
3. Switch the car to "Ready" mode
4. In Android bluetooth settings, pair the phone to the OBD2 device (password probably 1234 or 0000)
5. Run the app, in the app menu select the device that you paired.
6. then it should work. If not troubleshoot

Troubleshooting
🎯 Can't install APK. Make sure it's on an android phone (or tablet). Allow the option to "Install from unknown sources". Otherwise Google your error for your phone model. Ask in the forum if anyone else has this phone model.
🎯 Fails at 10-20% scantools. Incompatible OBD2 device. From Google app store download "ELM327 Identifer" app , connect and scan. If ATPPS 1.1 missing then incompatible. Source another OBD2 device... ask on forum what has worked for others. Best to get PIC18F25K80 chipset.
🎯 Fails at 36-40% vehicle scan and app shuts down... Your car ECU is in deep sleep try waking it by unlocking this might wake for few minutes only, can be repeated. If fails then put car in "Ready" mode.
🎯 Alarm is triggering shortly after locking car door. Either your OBD2 device was incompatible to begin with, then remove it from port before locking. Or your DRLs were switched off with the app. Disconnect the app (or switch DRLs on) before locking the car.
🎯 Rotating screen kills the app. Yeah it's a known bug either switch auto-rotate off in Android settings, or don't physically rotate the screen while using the app.
🎯 WiFi only or wired usb OBD2 devices are yet to be confirmed to work with the current app. Stick to Bluetooth.
🎯 MG car is not ZS EV. App has not been designed nor tested in other cars. But it may still work in other SAIC MGs. ( I would caution against switching DRLs off in other than the ZS EV).

Potential risks
🔥See this post here
🔥I have had some background WiFi usuage but not mobile data. I have blocked the app from using my data and WiFi as a precaution and would advocate that to all.

Above is evidence of Bluetooth OBD2 working with torque pro. It gives the information we want, SoH SoC, HV battery temp (for optimal rapid charging) and more.

Details in Thai can be found here. Where the screenshot was taken from.

There is an android app that can be downloaded here:
link for first app added

App tells SoH and can switch DRL on/off. then torque pro is supposed to be launched from it.

I tried with my old adapter that I used to work on my Mercedes w204. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. I'm guessing a better adapter might work (possibly one that works for VAG cars).

Yes I know we have OVMS but it's not cheap, it's wired solution that some don't feel comfortable with, and it doesn't add much extra USEFUL than the above screen shot.

Pair OBD2 in Bluetooth settings
Then disconnect the Bluetooth if it's connected to anything like the infotainment system.
Open above app. Goto devices and All paired devices are listed. May need to scroll if can't see it.
ScanTools runs first for about 5mins. Fluctuates 10-20% for a while then completes.
Then stuck on 20% withe Vehicle.
I can't get past that even after 1-2 hours.

Note:
App auto rotates if device is rotated and disconnects to the Bluetooth device on my mobile.
Leaving my OBD2 in the port and engaging locks from remote or external button. Makes the car alarm go off.. need to either remove the OBD2 device or lock the car internally with the window trick.
Again I'm guessing this due to my adapter and one that can communicate with ECU may fair better.

So you’ve got torque pro app already.
Maybe I’m being oblivious here, but shouldn’t all obd2 dongles work, the app just communicates with the dongle & tells it what commands to run?
Do they not all allow all commands etc to be run?

I’ve got a usb to obd2 cable that I used occasionally with a laptop with the bmw software on it. It was so temperamental, was very frustrating.

There are different chip types. I think for MG we need PIC18F25K80 ... This also supports modern VAG cars too.

Mine is a little old, it is version 1.5 still but I think it's a different chipset, and if I use the ELM identifier app it only fails one (1.1 APPTS).

There's some very cheap chinese bluetooth obd2 available, but don't know what chip they'd be etc.

Are you going to buy another one to try?

Anyone else got one/a different one to try out??

I have a VCDS lead, will give OBD2 a go on Wednesday when I'm off work.
VCDS can talk to the car and pull basic vehicle info and DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Codes). Unfortunately there weren't any EV specific parameters available in the Mode 1 Read Data option.

VCDS is a VAG specific tool with the option for OBD2.

Did you try different protocols?
Is there an auto function to go throyght them all one by one?

Would this do a similar function to the ovms, but a lot cheaper 🤔
Its a very powerful with VAG cars, I was hoping there would have been a few more EV parameters available on OBD2. As for cheaper, they now retail at £450, I paid ~£250 about 10 years ago when I had an Audi A3.

Ah so not cheaper, I thought they were the plug in £20 bluetooth type.
I will wait to see if ovms can decrypt the pre heat but can see me waiting for my next car in 4 years time 😅

The OP video is a cheap £20 Bluetooth (or WiFi) ODB2...

Tango130 was trying with his VCDS lead... Which is for VAG and expensive...and it didn't work

I have another ordered another up-to-date receiver with PIC18F25K80 chipset.. should get in a day or two...

If anyone has a receiver already give it a try with the android app in the opening post.

I have tried this with a very old elm327 Bluetooth module. Scantools gets to 20% and the app crashes. I'll order a new one with the chipset you mentioned if you have success.

Excellent, let us know how it goes when you get it.
I've started reading up a bit on ODB2 & CAN.......hmmmm!

Just trying new adapter.
So far.
1. Able to connect with app in OP
2. Reads SoH
3. Turn off DRL ...but turns back on as soon as disconnect the app from the device

Can connect various other apps, e.g torque and autoOBD but not getting any meaningful information ... I Think its the wrong protocol so will try them one by one.

DRL?

looks like you’re getting somewhere though.
I was looking at Bluetooth obds but couldn’t tell what chip they are.
