Hi,
I have just picked up my MG5 and looking for a good tariff for night charging.
This one drops the price from 9pm until 7am and all weekend.
Is anyone on it?

I use "OctopusGo" which gives 4 hours at 5p which will give you about 90-100 miles over night which is enough for most people's daily use and if you need longer then after 4: am it switched to the daytime 15p rate. This will workout a lot cheaper than EDF. Or if you regularly need more than 4 hours charge there is "OctopusGo Fast" which give 5 hours at 5.5p and the daytime rate is 13.5p.

If you've an estimate of your monthly EV mileage assume 3 to 3.5 miles per kWh and you'll get an estimate of your monthly kWh needed for charging. Now calculate the OctopusGo at 5p or OctopusGo-Fast at 5.5p
Check your current electricity usage from you bill. probably simplest to take their stated annual estimate which will be based on past 12 months and divide by 12. Now unless you run your washer/dish-washer or heat hot water tank overnight you could assume most of that current use is in the day and would be at the day time rate. Use this figure to calculate the cost at day rate at 14p for OctopustGo or 13.5p for OctopusGo-Fast for the cost of your regular usage.
You can now get the comparison between the two Octopus tariffs. Personally I don't find I need to charge every night so I have time shifted my Hot-water heating from Gas onto 4 hours of 5p electricity and time shift Dishwasher on time to after 1pm and therefore even on days I don't charge my ZS 40% of my electricity is at 5p rate on Octopus Go.

Higher daily standing charge and higher peak rates put me off them.

Go with Octopus - I need the money!

I am also thinking of changing (sorry to hijack this thread) and thought about Octopus Go but just not sure about 2 things. First, it is only 4 hrs cheap rate. We have storage heaters and they charge overnight so not sure if 4 hrs is long enough. Second thing is that when you change they will install a smart meter but cant give me a time slot so I will need to go onto their standard tariff which is way more expensive....If I am on it for months it is going to cost me a lot of money so not sure what to do

if it is any help I was also hesitant. I needed to have smart meters installed and was told about a Month on the standard tariff before swapping. I’m pleased to say that Octopus did what they said they would and inside a Month I was on the go tariff. The tariff outside of cheap tate i pay 13.72p so not that expensive. I agree 4hrs at 5p is not massive but suits me. A big deciding factor for me was that I can just swap to another provider at any time without penalty or exit costs - so I went for it. Hope this helps - oh, and there’s £50 each intro if you use a link from an existing customer 🙂

A word of caution.

I had a smart meter installed by Octopus 4 months ago and it is still not working! I have had to stay on their flexible rate during this time. They are having to send an engineer later this month to diagnose the problem.

Thanks guys. I presume that things will gradually get back to normal but I am going to phone them to have a chat this week. My year contract ends the end of this month. Now to the other question...who will I pick to share the £50/£50.......

I'm on the EDF Go 98 tariff. I only have a granny charger so the long 10hr night rate works well for me. I've managed to time shift most of my devices into the cheap 10hr or weekend slot with an average 2KWh day useage and 14KWh cheap useage. This gives an average cost of 10.7p / KWh.
For my usage pattern, the EDF tariff works out cheaper than the Octopus tariff as I need more than 5hrs cheap rate.

The car charging actually is not that important to me as I have a free rapid charger not too far from me so I dont use my Zappi every day...prob once a week as I also have solar that charges the car

Same for me. I changed to them and had a smart meter fitted within a few weeks

The wait to have a smart meters installed by Octopus 🐙 appears to vary widely.
Some wait weeks, while others wait time is much longer for some reason.
Getting your smart meter installed by your present provider is sometimes quicker if you have the time.
I had mine replaced within ten days with E.on.

I booked my smart meter installation with my current provider Bulb as it was less than two weeks.
Do I have to wait for it to be fitted brfore i start the swtich to a new supplier or as it takes a couple of weeks does that not matter plus its a third party doing the meters anyway?

I think the new supplier will need to be able to confirm they can communicate with the meters first, but you could check with them I guess ?.

Started my transition to Octopus..lets see what happens

I'm with Eon but leaving to move to Octopus as well maybe at the end of the month. Can you let me know how you get on please? I've got the Eon smart meter so I'll need to check to see if that's compatible with Octopus, which may save some time 🤞

Cheers

Is your eon smart meter an smet1? As octopus only seem to work with smet2 so you might still have to change.
We moved to octopus Agile last August and have no regrets, even with the higher tariffs in the last couple of months and a lot of peeps jumping to the Go tariff, we have still saved a chunk of money from our old provider.
We just tend to avoid using any heavy usage appliances between 4-7pm, which is the whole idea of the Agile tariff.
