What's your fuel economy

Having got round to wiring up my Zappi charger, I can also confirm it it a 3.6kw charger. I can't say that I stood and watched it for 3 hrs, but for the first 10mins or so while I was unloading the shopping etc, the car never went above 3.3kw load.

Also from draining the car to the point that the car switches out of EV mode. To a full charge is 12.88kwh. If you assume that it recharged a bit on the mile or two, I drove on petrol after that, then it's probably 13kwh usable battery, which works out strangely close to 3.5hrs on a 3.7kw charger.

Hi dragonfly thanks for confirming , it's strange how this information is not readily available on the mg site ( well I couldn't find it lol )

Yes I fell for thinking it was 7kw charger. I was starting to doubt it, when I charged it next to the leaf which also only has a 3.6kw charger, on public chargers. Both received virtually the same charge over 2hrs.

The zappi I guess only confirmed my suspicion if I'm honest.

quick question.
When starting a journey with the MG EHS , on a full battery and a full tank of gas.
How many Km. in Hybrid mode can the battery(+electric motor) support the ICE ?
And also,... is the battery (+ electric motor) even supporting the ICE in hybrid mode when lets say,.... driving on a highway on 100-110Km/h ??

It appears that at least the electric range is a set amount, and doesn't take into account previous driving. So unless you actually drive the car, in your given situations we would only be guessing based on the predefined values.

As for petrol, I have no idea, the dealer put £25 in when we picked it up, don't think I'm half way though it yet 😄

Hi Venumx basically you have 52 km of range on the battery. In hybrid mode the car will use the battery until it reaches 40km then it will kick the ICE in, and only go back to the EV under 40 km again.
BUT you can pick the EV button , and this overrides the hybrid management and will just use the EV until it is depleted ( or if you put the heating on , then the ICE will kick in) .
Please refer to "Urban Hybrid Management " thread for more info.
thanks

Just done a trip, fully loaded in car , and roof box .
89 miles (143km) on motorway or A roads (M6, M54, A5) so lots of over 60 mph ( 100km/h )and got the following results
45 MPG ( 6 l/100km)
7.2 kwh/100 miles (4.4 kwh/100km)
Also used the Air Conditioning as it was hot ( yes unusual for the UK LOL )
Personally I think for the size of car and loaded with lots of stuff and a roof box , this is very acceptable.

Jem, I'm curious, was that with the MG left in hybrid mode, or did you use the full battery.

On journeys like that I tend to pick and choose my EV mode usage with the intention of finishing with zero battery left.

Hi all
As I'm new to the Phev , I thought I would share my fuel economy and see what others are getting.
I know going forward I will probably just accept what I'm getting and have less interest, but for now I am interested in what I'm getting.
If I'm reading this right , then its looking good.
In the UK we use miles per gallon ( MPG ) but I know in Europe you use L/100km so I've used a great conversion web site ( dutchdigital) to hopefully do the conversions so we can all comment.
Looking at my accumulated totals I have the following
So I have done 298 miles ............................................ 480km
122 mpg ..................................................................................2.315 l/100km
27Kwh/100mls ( 3.7 mi /kwh) = 149 mpg .................16.777kwh/100km(5.9 km/kwh) = 1.88 l/100km

Obviously this will fluctuate the more I use the ICE. .
I try to use mainly used EV mode but last week I have used the hybrid mode , just to see what economy I get.
I drove out of rush hour , (so travelling on mainly 30-40 mph 48-64kmh roads ) and small journeys ( between 4- 10miles round trip
I saw on average 45 mpg and 33 Kwh/100mls ( may be the ICE did not really warm up until the short journeys were over hence the low MPG, but cant see a temp gauge for the ICE anywhere , how strange)

I did report when I 1st had the car I did a 50 miles round trip mixed urban and motorways and got 90MPG on that trip so not too bad.
This may be an obvious statement , but the figures do back up how you should use a Phev to get the best fuel economy, EV mode as much as possible and only the ICE when you need to, and no fear of range anxiety anywhere to be seen :)

The reason I am using the hybrid mode more, as the ICE will need "running in", to loosen it before I do some longer trips, or is that an old thing to do to new engines now?
As far as ice engines go all are now run in before it is installed in the car in the testing process, it only takes a short time due to the high tech. oils used now, but it was is still advised to take it easy for the first few hundred miles speed is ok but over-revving is the issue if there is one

Hi dragonfly mostly hybrid , and I made sure I switched to EV mode to use up the battery , (which only had 16 miles on it when I started) so I got home with 0 miles left.

Hi Dave53 thanks for your reply , confirming that

That probably amounts to the same thing, I have about 6miles of single carriageway, before I hit dual carriageway where, on a longer journey I tend to stick in EV on the single, then switch to hybrid, on the dual, and back into the ev, leaving dual. Interestingly you could also have got another 10miles or so on EV with a full charge, which would have improved your figures further.

When I'm going to my parents, who also have an EV charging point, I leave it EV all the way, do the last 2 miles on petrol, and charge up at theirs, and do the same on my return :) I usually stay for more than 3/4 hrs so works quite well, even if I have to boot their car off their charger 🤣

Hi dragonfly so how many miles do you get on EV alone when you go to your parents. I recently got 36 , but again was traveling on the motorway and then national speed limit roads .

Forgot to mention , when at 1 stage I was on EV only , the air con still worked, and the ICE did not start. So I assume this means air con works without the need for the ICE ( unlike the heating)

Yes air con works in EV mode, heating does not (that rely's on surplus engine heat) I think this is a failing of most phev vehicles unfortunately.

The trip to my parents is just over 30miles, so I'd guess I'm getting 28-29 depending on traffic/mood/weather. Most of which is at 70mph, I'd guess if I did the old tailgate a wagon at 56mph, or even just drove the back roads, I'd probably do it on a charge, one day I'll try it. If I'm wrong I just use a little petrol, unlike the Leaf 🤣

Here in Thailand car heating is not required and can run the car in EV mode with the aircon on, but still get about 70km in EV mode

Yesterday was at my local shopping center. There was no parking in the shade available. So when we were nearly finished shopping, switched on the aircon in the car from the app to pre chill the car :)

The quoted 32 miles EV range is pretty accurate.

I did a 100 miles round trip on the motorway and in hybrid mode, both ICE and electric motors work in tandem. Even doing 60-70mph on the motorway, occasionally the car will switch to full EV.

On a different trip to the next town 12 miles away on full EV mode. Country lanes and 30 mph town driving. Fully charged and after 12 miles, electric range left indicated 21 miles. The consumption was 32.8kWh/100km (1.89 miles/kWh).
