Hi All,
Check out the link above.
The Marvel is here with all the features one would have hope for in the ZS EV. Range 250 miles. But it is not coming to the UK. Why?....some may say it would come to UK eventually.
Seems the new UK post Brexit, China is enemy no. 1 attitude is however turning Chinese firms away to their "bigger Markets" that is EU, Asia in particular India, Africa, Latin America etc...
Well I hope the Marvel makes it here but worried that Brexit and Boris may get in the way.
What do you think will the Marvel grace our streets soon?
Apparently the formal MG position is no plans for Marvel in the UK.

Much as I despise Brexit, I don't think this has much to do with it. More a case of not wanting to retool for right hand drive markets just yet. Like the 5, they're only going MG with this car on the cheap anyway, it's a Roewe brand styled car with nothing more than MG badges stuck on.

Although now clearly last generation, at least the ZS is a bespoke MG brand styled car, If that's much consolation...!

We may well see it in time.

As for anti Chinese State rhetoric, that's just for local population consumption and there's plenty of it in the rest of Europe as well. In the real world all western countries know the essential need to keep trade relations on an even keel with China

@Pauline68
Yes your explanation is a good one.
China is such a big industrial power house. My worry is that it seems Boris thinks with Trump gone it is now up to him(Boris) to stand up to China. I hope Boris does not do that as a trade war between China and UK will have only one looser and that will be the UK.

I think Biden is quite capable of holding his own against China.

I dont think SAIC will give up RHD market, but the first important thing is to sell more in China and other LHD market.

So, maybe SAIC doesn't have a plan to sell Marvel in UK or india, Australia now, but it doesn't mean it won't have one for ever

Right hand drive nations include India, Singapore, Thailand Australia, to name but 4. R/H drive will be made and generally the UK consumer appears to pay more for their cars so wht wouldn't you?

Hardly think that, they just stated that the batch of vehicles newly imported to the UK was 70 % EV. I think that is a fairly hefty commitment to EV sales.

I think MG UK are aiming for the lower budget range especially given the way the UK dealers are and how they devalue their own product and service.

When I complained about my sunroof rattle, the Longbridge service manager stated that they normally creak. That was before he even checked it. I told him my aged Mercedes Paronamnic sunroof didn't rattle until about 80k miles. He replied these aren't the same. I said I don't buy that it wasn't rattling when I bought it, two months ago.

Then after the mechanic and manager both took it for a drive, the mechanic states "this is one of the better ones we have". And fobbed me off. If had paid 35k for a Marvel and it was like that or had remarks like that I would be fuming.

Really I'm just waiting for the Skoda EV then will probably part exchange.

They don't all have creaky sunroofs at all, more dealer BS. The cars are generally great, but if you are unlucky enough to get one with a fault or two, it does seem to be pot luck if you get a competent dealer or not.

The issue is systemic across the industry by the way, so be aware, if your new Skoda, or any other marque has issues, you're just as likely to get bad service there as well. :(

As my wife often reminds me, most people are thoroughly mediocre at what they do for a living, so I usually expect poor service these days... :(

Deal with them in a professional manner. Be assertive. Don't take no for an answer. If all else fails then tell them you will contact MG UK for guidance.

I thought Longbridge was supposed to be their elite. The one others garages contact when they don't know how to diagnose

I understand what you are saying. I have a rattle at front and steering click which I hope to get rectified. My dealer service has been great. I like the Skoda as well and would consider the new Nissan Ayera if built in U.K. My last car was a new Skoda Superb Exclusive 2016, thinking it was VW anyway. Terrible dashboard rattles and Skoda wouldn’t fix free because it was after 3 months old. It turned out to be a common fault and I wasn’t prepared to pay £400+ with people saying the fault came back several times. It ruined my Skoda experience. My local dealers weren’t very helpful, partly I think because I got my car £5000 cheaper from another dealer. All I am saying is, I don’t have confidence in any of the manufacturers. I think it is a problem buying any new model. The id.4 should be brilliant. I hope you can get it sorted by a good dealer.

There are so many cars that never make it to RHD in production, however SAIC has stated they have big plans for MG in EVs, and the market where the brand has cachet is UK so it would be surprising if they'd exit.

I put it down to Right Hand Drive being the smaller market, and therefore the lower priority.

Out of interest do you really believe that?
Most is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but I genuinely believe it's at least a very significant minority. I base it on over 30 years experience of both working alongside people, contracting people to do work for me, and observing others. On the whole, with a few noticeable exceptions of excellence, most things people achieve can best be described as "adequate" at best, with quite a few performing at a downright poor/crappy level.

I suppose it's subjective and dependent on personal expectations as well. I'm old school and believe if something's worth doing, it should be to a very high standard, "good enough" to me is probably considered close to perfect by others, I am pedantic and do have high expectations with regard to attention to detail.

I can see what you mean. I work for myself and find it near impossible to farm work out to others for fear of it not meeting my standards too.

To get back on topic slightly, I visited an MG dealer for my first sit inside an MG5 last weekend (I'm not an owner yet). The sales chap was a damp squib. Didn't ask any of the right questions and wasn't in the slightest bit interested in matching my needs. I didn't even manage to set foot inside the dealership before he's trying to work out a part exchange. It frustrated me so much I gave up and left within 5 minutes. Other staff were grouped chatting away inside and it just felt more like Carphone Warehouse than a dealership. Or maybe it felt exactly like a dealership and this is what we've been conditioned to expect.

So that's my first experience of an MG dealership.
