Say Hello

Hello!
I’m Sam and I just made 20 this October that’s just went and for my birthday I put a deposit down for an MG ZS EV.

Been painting and decorating for a couple years during school and uni where I’ve decided to ditch education and blaze a trail in Interior Design.

Always seen ICE cars as such a waste of income and such a massive expense! Working over the last 4 years as a painter my boss has burnt through 2 vans costing him god knows and my mother buying a brand new car under warranty costing her £1,500 for a new turbo.

For me the only option was electric to begin a business for its reliability, low cost and very fast 0-30mph speed?

This is similar to switching to any automatic car from a manual, though.
You very soon get used to having a redundant left foot.
And on some EVs, there isn't even a 'faux' gear stick. The Hyundai Ioniq has buttons for P, D, R and N.
I think the strangest thing for me was the regenerative braking and how the foot brake feels. In the Ioniq at least, you have to press the brake harder.
I wonder how it is in the ZS.
In the Mg zs ev the regen is great, there are 3 modes to use, 1 for motorway, 2 and 3 for other roads, its very much better than a leaf and when approaching corners or roundabouts taking your foot off slows and charges at the same time and if used correct will add miles to your journey.

Welcome to the MG EVs general chat forum. Please say hello and introduce yourselves.

I'll kick things off with a bit about me.
I have only owned one EV - a Hyundai Ioniq delivered in September 2017 (after a 6 month wait!).
I love the car and for the first year, it was perfect. But more recently I have needed longer range, so I'm looking around at the moment for a new EV and the MG ZS is a contender.
My background is running a forum (AVForums), which I have done since 2000, so it seemed like a good idea to start a forum about the MG ZS EV.
And that's how I got here.
I am a new member and proud owner of the new MG EV, i have had it for 2 weeks now, and really loving it. i had a diesel ford fiesta before and have noticed a big difference in driving style, noise and ride comfort. i am still getting used to the MG, but so far no issues and no gripes with it. I had to get the installers of the home charging unit back as i could not see it on the app, but they were quick to respond. Only done 200 miles so far and once charge.
So far so good, i have asked the dealer about the software charge upgrade for timed charging and awaiting feedback now.

HI all,

just had an update from the main dealer saying they have been notified of the upgrade and they will get the service team to contact me to arrange the upgrade down load.

Hello all, new user here, I picked up my ZS EV last week, my first EV so I'm really excited!

Hello, after only driving classic cars for over 10 years I treated myself at Christmas to a ZS Exclusive and I've just got used to electric windows, now for the rest of the gadgetry
The gadgetry was one of the big things I enjoyed about my EV when I went from a Diesel Audi with only an FM radio. Having DAB was a nice start, but of course, there is a stack of cool stuff going on.

Hi All, thanks for letting me join this community! I currently drive a red 2016 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo Estate, which does around 50-55mpg and I love it to bits. However, in November 2019 I took the plunge and, following a successful test drive, ordered a Dynamic Red MG ZS EV Exclusive for March delivery. However, I've recently seen that we may well be getting an MG5 EV Estate in the UK later this year and, as this is very similar to my current car and possibly has a bigger battery than the ZS EV, I'd be interested in that rather than the ZS. Has anyone else heard any news on this? My dealer doesn't seem to know much but other dealers are apparantly taking orders???

Hi! I bought the ZS EV in November and I'm a little bit in love ? It was a bit of an impulse buy tbf. Went for a test drive, turned out they had a cancelled order in stock, picked it up a week later. Never had an EV before and am still slightly paranoid I wont make it home to my dogs but the car is amazing. Comfy, nippy, very smart looking and full of gadgets.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and picking your brains because the technical stuff isn't my forte!!

I thought I needed an estate to replace our ICE car. I didn’t. What is about an estate that you need? Is it just the space? If so, how often do you actually need it?

Hi, looking at EV motoring after a conversation with a guy with two electric cars. He and his wife were saving £4000 a year on fuel costs.
My other half could save £2000+ a year on her daily commute if running an EV.
Drove a 2019 Leaf then seen the MG ZS EV, had a test drive and would have a choice of colours for immediate delivery but then read abut a few of the issues with rust on the ZS.
Also noticed comments about charging difficulties on off peak electricity.
The lack of a tow bar is an inconvenience as well for a tow bar mounted bike carrier.
We will have another look at the MG tomorrow and decide what to do.
The ZS is probably the best value BEV for sale at the moment but I wonder if second hand values will match those of the Leaf.
Thanks Thomas.

Thanks for that, how was it done? By MG or the charge station companies? Thanks Thomas.
Software update for the car - released December so all new deliveries should now have it. Think Rolec chargers may still have an issue but they are working on it and my Zappi is fine.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Leaf because it doesn't have thermal battery management. May not seem like a big deal, but it's something I personally think is important.

I'm aware of the lack of thermal battery management in the Leaf, bit it doesn't seem to affect second hand values which to me would be a big deal.
No-one knows how ZS EVs will hold their value even with thermal battery management.
The MG seems to be on par with the Leaf as far as efficiency though.

It's so difficult to know how EVs will depreciate. My Ioniq has held its value really well. Especially since many consider version 2 to be a dud.
I think you have to look at what the car does and buy it on the basis of how well that matches your needs and not worry about depreciation since that's such an unknown.

Hi Stuart, I own a small recreational fishing boat (rod & line) and fish regularly so need room for the rods etc and also have a 2-year old granddaughter plus stroller to fit in. So my Skoda is ideal, the MG is even better but if the MG5 Estate was available and was similar to my Fabia estate it would be even better, especially with the improved range.

Hi I’ve never owned an ev I currently have an old corsa I’m looking forward to the ev but I don’t know much about them in general. Also I’ve never been in a forum before so 2 new things for me ?
Louisa have you moved forward with your journey towards EVs?
