How to update your MG ZS EV media system

Hi All,

The inbuilt sat nav system on the MG ZS EV DOES SHOW chargepoints or more correctly will navigate you to the nearest chargepoints. Look in the destinations in places I think it is. Play around with the menus, IT IS there I just can't remember how to access it.

Regards

Frank

PS I will go outside and do it now and report back, wait out.

Tried updating mine today but it took 4 hours to download and then it said error trying to install to the usb drive, it installed the first update fine and in the car it’s just the big map update, the Navi tool box seems to be very slow it wasn’t yesterday, has anyone had this problem? Thanks

There is a full explanation in the Forum on how to update the navigation, I did it and after that it did show all the charger points I am aware of in the town I live that are listed on zap-map.

I am updating as per the explanation but for some reason it’s not working, like I said it worked yesterday on the smaller update so unless the server is having issues?

Are the quick chargers from Fastned and Shell and Allego also in the list?

Thank you Arjen,
My car is only 4 weeks old and I think the nav system is up to date.
I had a little hope there was something like a charging point list in the Naviextras shop.
Maybe hard to believe, but I still don’t have 4G on my phone:mad:
I think is the only way to go on the road without troubles.
Glad to help, that's what a forum is for if you ask me.
Now to your question about charging points. It is there in the navi. You can find it all in one of the EVVlog video's of Tech with Pat.

A real source of information for MG eZS starters.

Yes, actually I think also private chargers. So it's important to set the charger types you want. Like Rapid chargers. And when you use it while driving it'll show you the nearest charging points (quite random, so it has little to do with your route)

I hope it too. It directed me to AC chargers in the garden of other people. And many of (the most important) quick chargers are not shown.
Yep, already said it's kind of crappy.
If you don't have 4G I think it's still better to use A better route planner (ABRP) on your laptop before you make your trip. You can use the onboard navi to set up the route with the different way points (charging points) ABRP tells you to.stop and for how long. Really try it out it is great.

I did allready with one charging point, get the coordinates from google maps and put the point in the favorites of the MG nav. Shell recharge app has almost all chargers.
Btw this filter option is very usefull:

Then you see how incomplete the nav in MG is. Try with Kleefsedijk 29b in Sevenum. Big Ionity charging station, but NOTHING on the map.
Is there somebody who can find this station after any update??

Unless they give us 4G and ota, No.
Because of the way it is updated it will always be behind and incomplete.

But might I suggest you watch the video's, because what you show on your picture is already explained in the video.
Also finding one Rapid charger on Any app isn't routeplanning, nor navigating. Try to make a long trip without a routeplanner which calculaties your route based on ev, your mileage, battery life at start and arrival, weather conditions, terrain and the time and Place to charge along the way.

My car was only a week old when I updated mine on July 15th and the nav was not already up to date.

How can you check the date of the present cards?
I see on version info 1 aug 2019
and on licenses MG Western Europe with a difficult code or serial
I read the post of Kithmo that his cards where not up to date after buying the car, this is giving me a little hope to make charging points better.

I don’t understand where this is for? See screenshot.
I also read that it is strongly recommended to make a backup first before installing updates?

there is charging points on your navigation screen when selected

Tried updating on another pc, it’s work fine but it just keep coming back saying I need the below update, I install in the car and then format the usb and get the signature again and ope up the naviextras toolbox and it comes up saying I need this update again, also I cannot find any EV connector types other than type 2 type 1, Tesla and lots of domestic ones.

What was the date of the cards before update and what date after?
I don't know, I just followed the instructions on naviextras toolbox, took a fingerprint of my nav on USB, inserted it into my PC and naviextras showed me what updates I needed and were available, downloaded them then took the USB to the car and followed the prompts on the nav. It's quite straightforward really and pretty much the same as on my Toyota Priuses, which I've updated several times in past few years.
