Comfort Pack 2 Update MG ZS EV

Yes been down that road. No intention for arguments or cause offence to anyone. We all have to take our personal understanding of the situation and what we have experienced in respect to range and make the best of it. Safe driving everyone and let's maximise our driving efficiency it saves us money.

What are the upgrades that the Comfort Pack 2 cover, surely it is not just the outside temperature gauge?
I have written to MG UK regarding Comfort Pack 2. I contend that it IS a safety feature. My wife left the car by the passenger door and the horn sounded three times as a fairly aggressive youth walked past. He was not impressed and nearly assaulted me. Also, this cannot be silenced at night or in “quiet” zones, making it illegal.

@Exdro,
Good action writing to MG.
Sorry for the incident with the youth.
I think several others have also written to MG but the reply is usually a few lines of nothing specific.
Please do keep us informed and update with their comments when you receive their reply.

Comfort pack 2 stops the horn amongst other things. The bongs have gone and replaced with an occasional much nicer sound. It now shows the temp in the top right infotainment screen and the estimated range (GOM) in the lower left of the smaller screen between the dials. After full charge mine now shows 178 miles available in ECO which is slightly more than before but I'm not 100% sure you will get that. I have seen reports of people having to pay dealers to install the software but my dealer told me it was a free update under warrantee. I paid nothing. It took about two hours. However, I did buy the car from him.

I suspect the 178 mile business was always there, even before the update, but many of us had just not spotted it.... in Eco mode. I recently did 155 miles on one charge, with a few miles left up my sleeve ...with steady driving. That is good enough for me.
But as has been pointed out several times, the winter figures would probably be lower.

Let us know how you find the car now?

Hi Chris. Yes, you could be right on the mileage shown and I am sure you will be correct on the winter mileage. Physics 101 and all that.

I find the car better. The lack of bongs makes for a more relaxed drive and the triple horn beep has gone which makes for less embarrassment. Seeing the GOM reading at any point without fumbling for the switch makes life easier as well.

I also have a feeling it drives smoother in MGpilot mode now. Yes, I know that psychology can take over a bit here, but I took the car for a ride from my home on the Cambs/Norfolk border to Great Yarmouth right across the centre of Norfolk and back with a quick stop at Necton and used pilot as much as I could. I know from your previous posts that you may well know the A47 pretty well so you know the traffic situation. It seemed a little more settled, not so lumpy on the speed changes. Or is that just wishful thinking?? I dont know.

If you are near Horning in a couple of weeks time ....let me know......you could have a free 7KW boost and a socially distance cup of coffee!:)

Dont get over there often Chris but if I do I will give you a shout. Anywhere around the Broads is always worth a visit.

Copy of an E-mail I have sent to MG UK

Dear Agent 2,

Thank you very much for your reply explaining that tho Comfort 2 Pack is an Enhancement rather that an upgrade on safety grounds.

I came very close to being assaulted last week when my wife left by the passenger door to go to a supermarket and the horn sounded three times as someone was passing. He became very aggressive and fortunately calmed down before hitting me!
It is also illegal to sound the horn after 11.00pm and before 7.00am and also within certain precincts.

For these reasons alone, this enhancement should be provided my MG UK at no cost to the car owner.

I look forward to a reply from your legal department explaining the rationale for NOT treating this as an urgent safety issue.

Who takes responsibility for fines issued for sounding a horn, and who will carry the can when someone is assaulted?

From a safety aspect I have elected to have the upgrade next week, but feel certain that the positive PR engendered by admitting the aberrations in the original software, albeit installed with the best of intentions would far outweigh any NEGATIVE PR produced if someone is hurt or fined as a result of the car horn sounding at the wrong time.

Headlines Could read "KILLER CARS!" WOULD YOU DRIVE THIS AND RISK YOUR LIFE?

Mine was done free of charge by my dealer. I did buy the car from him. If you bought the car from the dealer who is doing your upgrade I suggest that you point out that other dealers have done it free of charge under guarantee.

However, if you did not buy the car from the dealer doing your upgrade then they may well be quite fairly charging for the technicians time. The software is downloaded from China and is free to the dealer.

After reporting random horn beeps, bongs, infotainment black outs/reboots delays coming on and a creak from the dash I booked the car in to my local dealer. Brysons MG in Prestwick. Just picked my car up all valleted no bongs no creak hurray. The Technician came out and explained the updates and the differences, auto high beam, faster boot up, range and temp displayed.
I asked him if the update increased the range any as has been discussed on here. His answer was defo not with this upgrade. Possibly if MG decides to do some kind of ECU upgrade at a later date it could. But defo will not make any improvement just now. I hope this helps to put that dispute to bed. Also the upgrade was done free and I got a courtesy car too. Great service.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Had mine done on Tuesday.
Dealer charged £90.00. I am currently raising this with MG UK, whos maintain that it is not for safety or legal reasons that it is required. The more people who contact MG UK, the more chance that they will agree for a free update. i can understand why dealers need to charge as they are not charities, but no reason for SAIC not to pick up the tab.

I have to admit that I find this strange. I asked my dealer about paying when he did mine and was told "No, it is an update under the warrantee" I, and others I understand, did not pay. I think this comes down to some dealers cashing in. It certainly points out the better dealers in my opinion.

The dealers were all sent letters telling them to charge for the updates, the letter was shared within this forum, however it appears that the vast majority are doing it for free if you bought the car from them.

From what I can gather the comfort update is free, but some dealers are charging for the installation time.

My local dealer is refusing to do updates until they receive better software, apparently they have already bricked a car!

The horn beeps on exit should be a completely free upgrade regardless as they break the law.

I understand where MG is coming from, but they should completely absorb the cost of the installation and accept risk. They can either cultivate a happy, loyal fan base or return to the car graveyard.

I wonder if that's the individual dealer line on things, or MG UK, as it sounds completely unacceptable. Especially as European buyers seem to be getting it for free without threat of no warranty cover if it screws up their cars!

In fact I've never heard anything quite like it, so they charge you to update the software written by the manufacturer for their product and if, due to either incompetent installation or ropy coding it doesn't work right, expect the owner to pay for putting it right? And they can't even give a price upfront? Unbelievable.

I'm livid, I really want outside temperature and it's just crazy running another thermistor and gauge when it's already there just waiting to be turned on. :(

Let's hope some more progressive dealers give better feedback in the coming weeks...
I was getting used to the, bongs, but having watched the video showing all the benefits of the comfort Pack 2 decided to have it done. No charge at Barnes Canterbury. Being done next week. I hope to be as happy as the man in the video was. Will post again when it’s done.

I ended up paying £90 at my local servicing dealer, the fact they wouldn't budge on price has cost them my next purchase for sure, on principal. They'll begrudgingly still get my ongoing service work as their hourly rates are lower than most and they're convenient, but they've screwed any loyalty I would have had! Ooh, don't I sound bitter today? lol!

Anyway, the update is well worth it, you'll love it :)
