EV Watchdog for MG EV

Just about to order the OBFLink LX and then noticed it said incompatible with Hybrid or EVs!!
Is this the correct one I'm looking at?

Yes that's the correct one.

They're OBDLink App will just display generic PIDs and won't work with Hybrid or EVs, hence the warning.

The Watchdog will work with no issues with this adapter, I've been using mine now for more than 7 years and 150.000km.

Top Tip is this EV Watchdog! I tried a couple of OBDII Bluetooth Dongles and the first I tried was a basic Clone ELM 327 and although it paired the EV Watchdog couldn't recognise the vehicle.
The second a more expensive "Konnwel" Bluetooth OBDII paired and recognised the MGZSEV and read off all the key data especially pleased to see SoC percentage and Ah. Disappointed though to find one cell #61 indicated RED and significantly below the average although #60 was up there with the best #62 was Green and a little higher than #61 and # 63 a little higher than #62 and so over the adjacent 11 cells ramping up to normal level.
Having proof of concept with the FREE version, I must get a screen capture, then do a Ballance charge overnight, and check again. Maybe have a conversation with the dealer but I will also check out what I get with the PAID FOR VERSION.
Question: Can this App be made display on the AndroidAuto?

About the cell map.

BMS will report min/max voltages for the existent 9 modules only, there is no voltage per cell (contrary to the KIA/Hyundai EV models).
I had two options. First one was disabling the cell map completely. Or for each modules that hold 12 cells, display on the map the lowest and highest voltages and distribute voltages evenly for the middle cells. And that's what you are seeing.
I think it's better that way.
Min/max voltages and max cell voltage difference are always true.
Average might be a little off but I would believe very negligible.

To infer the voltage balance I would rather look at the details of a trip card (long enough) you'll see there the min/max voltages and maximum cell voltage difference observed by the App during the whole trip.

You won't find the cell id number though, unfortunately I'm still not able to get max voltage cell id, for the samples I had, PID=0x22b058 was always returning 0xFF (255)

Unfortunately Google has a very strict policy to approve Apps fro Android Auto.
It has to fall in one the categories: Messaging, Music or Navigation.
 
Hi Watchdog, on the free app, I don't get charged, discharged and usage figures. Please confirm what steps can I do to fix it?

That was the Wifi version alas it doesnt recognize the car make etc etc. I've returned it and am trying the Bluetooth version. I mistakenly thought that getting the wifi version would mean it would connect to my home wifi (like my son's Tesla does) but it only allows incoming wifi connections meaning you have to disconnect your phone from a working wifi to this non-internet wifi.

04. Should I get a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth OBD2 adapter?​

  • For the App the only difference is the way you configure each..​

    When connected to a Wi-Fi adapter you won't be able to access other data networks (mobile or Wi-Fi) from your device.​

    With a Bluetooth adapter this will not happen and you shouldn't have any problems using other Bluetooth accessories simultaneously as multiple connections are usually supported for most devices.​

 
yup, my bad. I read your FAQ about that before but was hoping against hope.
I've since gotten a bluetooth version of the dongle. The EXZA HHOBD Bluetooth connects but the app does not recognize the vehicle make. Several other apps do show some data but not presented in a way that's useful for me. I'm thinking my French import 2020 MG ZS EV might have a software version onboard that's somehow not being recognized. And having to turn the car on to get any useful info kind of defeats the purpose for me. But I'd welcome any troubleshooting / debugging tips. Not getting a more expensive adapter though, because to me right now it doesnt seem worth the money for the info I'm getting.

I am running the July 22 v1.7 Watchdog EV Free app , when I try to Start Live Data I get the message “Unknown Model Type! Could not identify vehicle model type”. It sure if this is due to the Car being an Australian MG ZS EV. I am not sure how to extract diagnostics with the Watchdog EV Free app. Thanks

getting that here in the Netherlands on my French import MG ZS EV as well.

I managed to get some logs from Johan's car (thank you for that Johan) and in fact there seems to exists two different VIN numbers.

European models start with SDPW...

And others with LSJW...

Which I believe is bound to the assembly factory (the S usually means Germany/Europe, while L usually means China/Asia).

More about WMI

First thing the App will do is retrieve the VIN number and try to identify the model/version.
At this time it is prepared to work only with the SPDW, which was the logs I had when I added the support.

I just confirmed with Johan's logs that the LSJW has the same OBD2 interface has the SPDW so I'll releasing a new version soon which should support both VINs.

I get the same issue with my mg5 so your next release could fix that for me also.

Hi from Norway, I have the same problem on my "MG ZS EV" using your "Watchdog, Free version" for testing before buying, my "VIN" in Norway start with LSJW, like all other car's delivered here.

I'm having same issue and returned a few Bluetooth dongles back to Amazon. Thought it might be my phone (Samsung Galaxy S21+)? Running a MG ZS EV
