Just popped my MG5 on a free Podpoint 7kW at Tesco - activated via the app and all was good. Came back 30 minutes later and tried to release via app - but it didn’t say this was in use and didn’t see anyway to stop

Anyway, called support and they suggested locking and unlocking the car between 5 & 7 times, without opening doors in between.

Sure enough, car released the charge cable. Not sure if this is something well known or if it works in all situations. Anyway, might be worth a try for anyone with a trapped cable rather than opening bonnet and pulling the release there.

Hi biffo, I don't get the disconnect option on the Pod point app and by unlocking the car, the green light on the charger flashes and allow me to disconnect from the car first before removing the cable from the charger. I don't have to lock unlock 7 times.

Thanks - I might have been unlucky with this unit as car wasn’t releasing (unless I just wasn’t pulling hard enough!) and the app didn’t show it in use but did show the two outlets on an adjacent unit as being used.

Possibly user error as first time using one of these!

I generally stand by the port when i unlock the car with the key as you can hear the little motor when it unlocks the plug. I’m sure I read on here that it locks again fairly sharpish, so be at the front, unlock the car, hear the plug unlock then pull. Don’t be pulling the plug and unlocking at the same time or that might prevent it from releasing. Might be an unnecessary procedure, but it’s worked for me so far…
Edit- I mean the port on the car, not the charger end.

Yes, it is a regular thing, I have had to do it myself a few times.

I had the same problem and found out here that pressing the unlock button a few times will release the cable from the car, but be quick, I have contacted Podpoint and asked that they add a 'STOPCHARGE' button on the app as they do with the rapid chargers.
It seems daft that both the car and and the charger rely on each other to stop the power!
Still hopefully ont matter when we upgrade to the new ZS LR

For me it doesn't matter what the charge point is, I always have to press the unlock button on the keyfob or door to release the cable when ending an AC charge.
