New (late 2021) ZS EV

Ah, I see now, hadn't realised you'd bought a Kia. :)
I have bought, but not taken delivery yet, for another week.

We did have a test drive....it was lovely having full auto air-con. I hated the old MG set up...much too slow and distracting......But I still like the MG, and I hope the new version has other improvements, as well as better range.

So do we think the current model might get a software update based on these upgrades? Also potentially have a iSmart upgrade available to buy?

In terms of looks I think it’s a bit disappointing. Not really much difference from the old version - plus a few ‘halfords accessories’ type changes. It’s great that it will have bigger batteries and an app at last though - plus the price looks to remain competitive.

I was hoping they would announce that as well. However I'm not sure that a simple software update would give you the iSmart connectivity. I do believe there is missing hardware needed for that to happen. I could be wrong on that, though.

Pumped. LED lights, 360 cameras, I-Smart, bigger battery, new bigger screens, more USB plugs, V2L and a tow hitch for 500 kg. I just hope the ground clearance is more. It seems not, cant really figure it out.

ye there definitely is missing hardware, but it is just a module that has been removed on European versions from what I've seen.

Some pros. & Cons.

Still no auto dimming interior mirror! Naff.

Timed charging. Excellent.

Climate control. Excellent.

17" wheels. Naff... but...

Now 55 profile tyres. So excellent as an upgrade to 18" can now maintain a 50 profile for better comfort.

360 cameras. Excellent.

500kg towing. Excellent.

New blue colour. Excellent.

Red stitching. Excellent.

72kWh battery. Excellent.

Tinted glass. At last!!

Overall, not bad at all, if the wife would drive one, I'd consider it for the second family car. Unfortunately she suffers from small caritus, so has to have something poxy, so will probably be a zoe.

Too bad they didn't continue with the front badge charging flap (only opening to left like the MG5). From a symmetrical POV it looks not as good off to the left. Also it reminds me of a Kona or an Niro

For what it’s worth my observations are it’s the same body panels with new front and back plastics and new shaped lights into the new plastics ( bumpers, front grill)
nice to have the extra range.
As for towing if you look carefully at the towing capacity it’s only avalible for the comfort standard range (as noted on the euro range Here )
On the inside, if you look carefully the knobs for fan, heat, ac and heated seats are gone so presume it will be through a menu on infotainment screen, which is a big down grade for me.
although reading between the lines it does have climate control, but doesn’t mention auto climate?
all told, I will say it looks nice and it would be great to have the extra range just like my 5, let’s see what it comes in at and see how it affects the price of the original model, I’ve got a suspicion that the 2nd hand ev market is going to be very buoyant over the next 2-3 years as the great unwashed start to move towards ev from ice cars, so I think the statement of our ZS being worthless is unfounded (all imho)

Interestingly the long range version seems to be the same weight as the standard version. How can this be with a bigger battery? Methinks a mistake has been made …….

A few points I've noticed.

Comfort vs Luxury trim gives iSmart lite vs more functionality, if lite provides remote cabin pre-cool/heat then that'll do me.

LR only has 3phase (11kw) AC charging, SR has 6.6kw.

LR has a lower power motor, 115kw vs 130kw on the short range. Bit odd they've done this and not used the higher power one of both models.

Rear air vents now :)

Both trims have heated front seats, amongst other things in common.
Potentially more folk will take the "Comfort" rather than "Luxury" trim, unlike now where you get a lot more with the higher trim.

Some figures don't seem to be correct, they can't both have same 0-100 time with different power motors surely, plus the weights must be different for each battery.

It's advertised as 150kw in one place and 115/130 elsewhere....

Can anyone spot if they've kept the pointless "battery" switch next to the KERS & MODE switches?

What were they thinking with that front end, it looks really cheap being all one colour. The 2021 update version looks so much classier. And that charging door why why ? Bad move in my opinion.
Aiming to tempt a younger market?
