New (late 2021) ZS EV

Is that not to increase range?
Larger wheel Rim size with lower profile tyre = lower range!

Tesla has always stated different ranges for different wheel rim options and I recently saw that Kia also do the same for the new Kia EV6 (AWD) :
19" Wheel option 314 miles
20" Wheel option 304 miles

Currently, I'm looking for suitable 16" VW Group wheels to fit Winter tyres for this winter that will, being a higher profile, also compensate a little for the lower range in winter or perhaps fit with Cross Climate to use all year round rather than the Windmill 17" rims.

is not 0.1 is 0.4 here in spain 0-100 is declared as 8.2 seconds, for that is strange that new engines with more power give worst time. I only could think that declaration of MG is wrong or new engines capped for more range. (we could not know until the car is available and people do youtube reviews, example Bjorn Nyland).
Suspect that the gravity effect is greater in Spain therefore increasing inertia and then friction.;)

Here's the thing.
Really like my ZS EV.
Range has never been an issue as I have not done a long Journey yet.
In fact never had to charge at a public charger.
New LR model sounds good to me.
Had a decent figure quoted by WBAC and Motorway. (More than what I paid)
Do we reckon that prices on current model will drop when the new model launches ??
When will we actually be able to get the new model.
Do I take a risk and sell my ZS EV at a good price.
Do I spend an extra £10,000 or so on the new model.

What do you reckon ????????

It has been stated by MG that they know and understand their market segment. I don’t think they dare go to high with the pricing or many may just go for a competitor that could be just a few grand more.
If the new model gets good reviews and they have not tried to be too clever and make a mess of things then I think moving from present ZS EV would see me out with its 7 year warranty on major parts.
I do love driving my ZS EV.

Larger rims = less range?...Is this always the case? Isn't it dependent upon the size of the tyre profile - thus if you want larger wheels, just make sure the rolling measurement is as close as possible to the original wheels. I'm assuming you can have larger rims without having to significantly reduce the tyre profile.

Go and try carzoo they seem to offer the most and don’t quibble when collecting the car ( so I’ve heard)
on my 5 and our ZS they offer on average £500 more than wbac and motorway
just a thought.

quite agree they are punching into the price bracket of other EV models
I totally agree !.
I have said almost the very same thing in another thread.
If the new Gen 2 / Face lift top spec 71 Kw option nudges even CLOSE to the £35,000 ceiling mark, which is the limit to receive the government grant.
Then when MG increases their prices in Jan of next year, as they have already stated.
This could effectively make the car £2,500 more expensive straight from the “Get Go”.
Therefore MG have to be careful when pricing the model with the larger pack and in the top trim level.
Otherwise, it has pushed the price into a sector where there is more choice of EV’s on offer.
The Gen1 ZS EV sold SO well because the pricing structure & incentives where extremely hard to match by other makers.
MG understands where their market strength / customer base is situated.
They must retain this place in the market to stay successful.

The width of the tyre also makes a difference due to the rolling resistance and water dispersing properties when in the wet.

Have we heard about if the affinity scheme will be offered for new ZS EV?

Cannot confirm 100% but, my local dealer who I've asked stated 'yes'. Until I've got the paperwork though, it's all subject to change.

The main reason for the decrease in range here is the tyre width, the larger wheel/tyre combo. is wider. If you maintain the same width whilst increasing wheel size the range reduction is minimal.

What you choose to do has to be your call. Old model values always drop once they become obsolete, which is as soon as they are no longer the current model on sale. However with the current increases in new and used pricing, this may not translate to an actual reduction in your value at the moment! Nice to have these first world problems I suppose.

The correct answer, of course, is as your range is adequate, keep your current car for several more years. Constantly changing cars every year or so is actually really stupid financially,. But lots of us do it anyway, including myself!

I'm sure the reason that the larger rim (lower profile for same rolling circumference) has a worst range is that the lower profile tyre has stiffer sidewalls which after all the reason performance cars have LP tyres for more direct steering. Stiffer sidewalls means that humps and bumps of the road cause the unsprung mass of the wheels and suspension to have greater vertical movement which takes energy. Also with greater vertical movement of the wheel the energy is dissipated in the "Damper" doing its job of dissipating energy.

By contrast, a deeper tyre wall of a higher profile tyre can deform more and rebound with less vertical movement of unsprung mass and therefore less energy is lost. Now, of course, the low-profile tyre itself will dissipate less energy than its high-profile counterpart but on balance, the losses in the dampers are considerably less bourn out by the range improvement and comfort is improved.

This video in German shows hands on with the new silver model.

Nice. I do like the 'press-buttony- charger port - waterproofy' button effort. Much more sophisticated than the rubber bung we currently have.
