New (late 2021) ZS EV

Some pros. & Cons.

Still no auto dimming interior mirror! Naff.

Timed charging. Excellent.

Climate control. Excellent.

17" wheels. Naff... but...

Now 55 profile tyres. So excellent as an upgrade to 18" can now maintain a 50 profile for better comfort.

360 cameras. Excellent.

500kg towing. Excellent.

New blue colour. Excellent.

Red stitching. Excellent.

72kWh battery. Excellent.

Tinted glass. At last!!

Overall, not bad at all, if the wife would drive one, I'd consider it for the second family car. Unfortunately she suffers from small caritus, so has to have something poxy, so will probably be a zoe.
So excited , I was in to place an order , then advised they couldn’t order last week as a model was being launched 😁 , really happy with the upgrades & dealer hopes it should be available by `feb so happy to wait on it , I like the fact I can turn the heater on in the winter so the car won’t be cold , as I currently have a Ford Kuga AWD with heated everything ,,, even steering wheel , I like my toys

What have you ordered?

Miles said first gen2 ZS EV customer cars should be available in December.

I think with the increased range. the new infotainment system and other upgrades, that is a given. The £2500 grant would still make it an absolute max of £32500 after grant which would be £3905 more than Gen1 but acceptable. However, why would MG keep the price of the Trophy model under £35000 if there wasn't a grant. Potentially they could price it at say £36500 making it £7905 dearer than Gen1 and £4000 dearer than if the grant was still in place. Making it unaffordable for some and unattractive for many more potential buyers. I loved my Gen1 but as the colder weather hit I found the range an issue. I hope they don't mess with the grant too much.
There is also talk of a new "no VAT"on new EVs purchased and registered in the UK.

Hi All - Miles mentions in the latest podcast, possible changes to the grant in the budget - date of the budget was quoted as 27 November - I believe that the budget is 27 October, before the price announcement of the facelift ZS EV - Hope this doesn't affect the prices in a detrimental way - just sold my ZS EV to WBAC - if any grant change makes the facelift ZS much more expensive I will be going back to an ICE car - stupid to reduce the grant just before a big climate change summit if you ask me !!!
It will be considered counter productive to remove the plug in car grant. Besides, in the spring budget chancellor promised the scheme will run till 2022-23.

There was an article I read which talked about taking away the home charging infrastructure installation grant for plug in hybrid vehicles and limiting it to EVs only.

Better if we had a proper car manufacturers to have made it made in UK and have a max price ceiling as well
Agree, it would be but, with poor working benefits (comp to majority of EU) we remain uncompetitive.

Without trying to be political, what are 'poor working benefits'. I thought we had some of the most efficient car producing in Europe.

Sick pay, maternity/ paternity pay, holiday allowance, wage rate, healthcare all (majority) better in EU per capita. Spain, France are way ahead of the UK

I will be ordering the the luxury model with the longer range , I have to wait until the dealer can place the order as they can’t order anything at present , they have all my details I was going for the exclusive however my timing was great as they couldn’t place the order a couple of weeks ago due to the new model coming out, I am delighted, the dealer thinks I should have it approx Feb ? If it’s earlier that will be great 👍🏻 , this will be my first EV , so I am looking forward to it Jody

Question for the more knowledgeable people out there - will the facelift ZS EV be MY21 or MY22

I am hoping to get the facelift model as soon as it comes out so if registered before 31/12/21 will it be eligible for the £750 off voucher

Hi,

Hope you are taking advantage of the Energy Savings Trust interest free loan for buying a EV.

I am only mentioning it as you have plenty of time to use it, and for some reason many people are not aware of it.

Regards

Frank

Just to clarify @Claire .
The previous ( original model ) came in two trim levels, the excite and the exclusive.
The exclusive having the sun roof and many our features.
On the face lift version, they have switched out the model / trim levels.
It now comes in SE spec and Trophy 🏆 models.
Similar spec to the previous models.
The Trophy 🏆 is the higher spec on the face lift model ( sun roof etc etc ).
The first batch of cars into the U.K. will be the 72 kw/h pack versions.
The smaller pack version will not be available until latter in the year I believe.

Any cars available and ready for delivery before the end of this year, will have the first date of registration on the V5 as a 2021 and will qualify for the “test drive” award of £750 in my opinion.
But if you placed a deposit and MG could not supply the car until after Christmas, would you still get the grant - only MG can answer that question.

Also interested in this question as I notice in the small print on the mg site that the current 0% Apr PCP deal only applies to the MY21 model. That's not to say they won't change the offer to cover the newer model.

Just FYI,
Please note that test drive voucher cannot be combined with the affinity scheme offer.

I was trying to make an educated guess of the new prices.
Current + 1000-1500£ for standard range
Current + 4000-4500£ for long range

Based on assumption price per kWh to be 200usd as discussed on the podcast+ VAT + misc

Does it sound fair?

MY21 is the model year and as far as I am aware has no relation to when the car is registered. Many YouTube videos are quoting 2022 MG ZS EV. This may well be the model year as they can start making the next model year 3 months in advance. To qualify for the voucher the car has to be registered before 31/12 AND be MY21. Methinks it may be classes as MY22. If it is MY22 and approaching 31/12 I will probably ask them not to register until Jan 2022.

All of this depends on what happens to the prices after possible grant changes in the budget next week and the increase due to the upgrades of course. Think it may be an incentive to move the older model out before the end of the year.

Yes it will be the Trophy model as I have always had a sunroof , love that in the summer months ☀️

I have also captured the test drive voucher for £750 off the price of a ZS EV / MG5 / HS PHEV.
But to be honest, I think there is bigger fish to fry with regards to loosing out on this one single offer.
E.G. - We have a budget just around the corner and we have no idea what is likely to happen regarding the Gov grant, currently sitting at £2,500.
If this is reduced or scrapped, then this increases the price of the car straight away.
Secondly, MG have already stated that from January 2022 they will be increasing the price of their cars due to the massive hike of 600% in their transport costs.
I firmly believe they are holding back on the pricing of the ZS face lift until they understand where they are situated after the budget.
Press day is the 1st November and dealers are expecting deliveries of the first Demo units around the 26th of November.
The first batch will ALL be 72 kw/h packs only, maybe in both trims of SE and Trophy.
On the previous launch, most of the dealers where given the lower spec cars as Demo models and the upper spec cars where sold on to customers.
The cars arriving here in the first batch, where probably built some time in August of this year, is my guess.
Personally, I would not want to register a new car a few weeks before Christmas.
My car arrived two weeks before the Christmas of 2019 after a seven month wait.
I waited until the 6th of Jan 2020 to have it registered.
By MG offering this £750 discount for test drives / deliveries before the end of 2020 is a bit ambitious to say the least.
Are they just whipping up interest to get an idea of demand for next year ?.
