My MG5 developed a fault in that it woudnt take a rapid charge and also most of the time didnt take a fast charge on public chargers. It charged fine on my Zappi. I gave the car to Frazers MG garage in Falkirk, Scotland 10 days ago and they still cant get to the bottom of the problem. I have a courtesy car (an MG3) but I forgot how much money it takes to fuel an ICE car...even a small one like the MG3 and wish for my old car back. How long do you think I should accept their stock reply ' We are doing tests on it' for ?

Also..I was given their courtesy car..an MG3. Man...I have put £90 into it so far. I guess I have just forgot how much petrol costs. Also it is the most gutless car I have ever driven. Wishing I had my MG5 back

Same here, I have been waiting over two weeks now for parts to get the electric hand brake fixed on my ZS EV.
One part arrived last Wednesday, the other part has been delayed.
Check again next week, was the answer.
I am running around in 3008 Derv powered SUV.
It is getting through fuel, like it has a leak in the tank !.
I have spent around £85 in two weeks on fuel.
MG have a two week hire car bill of around £1,000 and still counting.
A lot of money just because of £150 ish worth of parts to fix my car.

Waiting 18 days now. Car still in garage in bits. Does anyone know of the legalities of how long they can keep my car as it is just a year old ? Getting really fed up with my courtesy car

You can ask for your car back any time you like but it won't actually solve your problem. Have you formally requested they change the courtesy car for an EV? At least that would put your running costs back under control.

18 Days, I think you are well within your rights to insist on at least a similar EV as a loaner, if they don't have one then they should hire one. You're right you can't 'send it back' now. Anything you do should be in writing, make records of everything.

Similar situation here, we are now at 24 days now and still awaiting one more part.
The car hire has been extended and it will be 4 weeks on Wednesday.
The car hire has cost MG £2,000 todate and still counting. I am worse off by £150.00 on that horrible Derv stuff.
All this expense for two parts costing less than £160 and about one hour of labour.
When I spoke to the hire car company earlier this week, the lady said they are in the same situation.
Some of there hire cars are stuck in the garage awaiting parts !.

It will eventually be cheaper to just give you a new car
I wish !.
Hopefully I will get it back just in time to trade it in for the face lift model due in March 2022.
But who know’s 🤷‍♂️.
Driving an oil burner for the last month, reinforces WHY we bought a EV though !.

Strange that in just a year I have forgotten how much petrol costs. I would love to trade in my MG5 for a new MG5 long range but guess they wont do it. I will ask for a EV if this goes on much longer. They say it is because they communicate with MG via email so it takes a long time and it seems neither they or the MG mechanics can figure out what is causing the fault. Very frustrating.

I could not agree more @RossN !.
We are still covering very similar journeys / mileage covered in the oil burner, due to previous commitments before our EV entered the garage.
However, the cost to carry out these trips now have resulted in a HUGE drain on our budget.
Being totally honest here, if we where having to spend THIS amount of money on fossil fuel on a regular basis to cover our trips, we would have take a serious look again if ALL of these trips are necessary due to affordability !.
When my car first went into the dealership, I requested a replacement EV in its place.
At the time, the dealer had a MG5 and a ZS EV Demo vehicle sitting on the car park.
The dealer told me that MG will not pay the dealer to loan these cars out to customers for longer than a couple of days, due to the cost.
The dealer has to make the request for a hire car to a after sales manger at MG who then decides if you entitled to a car !.
Then when the dealer receives the okay ( via e.mail ) a car will be located at a local hire company and dispatched to your home address.
We where lucky ( or unlucky ) to be given a SUV Peugeot 3008 due to mobility issues.
If MG customer services agree that there is no progress being made on your car, why not ask them Would MG consider exchanging the car, given the amount of time it is taking.
Remember, they have to locate the fault, before they can order the part's ?.
Then how long is THAT likely to take ?.
In situations like this, when the dealer has run out of idea's, they will extract the data pack information via the OBD port and then send this info back to the MG Tech Team.
The info will be run through a trouble shooting program, that will offer options to try to resolve the problem.
I think I would be contacting MG Customer Services and ask them for a progress report on your car and also, ask them for a SOLID commitment on date when it WILL be returned.
If the dealer is making NO progress, ask if the car can be returned back to MG themselves.
Ask them what is actually taking place to move this problem forward ?.
Good luck !.

Car been in garage 25 days now and finally they said they have had permission to replace the whole charging unit. ' Might' get the part in next week. Not exactly been a great experience and although I still love the car not happy with MG at all.

They're all the same, if things go well everyone is happy but when there's a hiccup nobody wants to take responsibility and manufacturers take an age to make decisions.

I had a Toyota works van in the garage a couple of years back to get the air con fixed under warranty. It took them two months to figure out why their obd kit wasn't communicating with the onboard computer (using toyota obd but the van was a rebadged peugeot..) then they really started to break it. Told me it was ready, got it home and the alarm went off, and off, and off and off, air con still not working. Back to the garage where they snapped the glove box completely off and told me it was all fixed, got home and same problems exactly plus fan now not working and g/box lying on the floor. Eventually my company took it back off them and sold it, gave me a different van.

I've used Frasers RossN since getting my ZS EV (not from them) and fortunately have had no problems so far except... was prepared to order a new MG5 LR when getting my 1st service done (29th Oct.) but sales didn't get back as promised so went elsewhere and ordered the lovely Red :)

Finally got my car back today. Waited almost a month to book it in and it has been with them a month. They say they have fixed it (and fixed the brake recall) but time will tell. Just so glad to have my car back and it is just great to drive an electric car again ! Happy days.

Pleased that you’re sorted. On the subject of a suitable courtesy car, I think that it is unacceptable to provide a ice car as a courtesy car while an ev is being repaired, unless the customer is completely acceptable with this.
The only reason to partly justify this is that there are still more ice cars available as courtesy cars. A poor example but if you were running an ice that did 50mpg and offered a coutesy car that did 10mpg you’d reject it. An ice replacing an ev creates even more major additional running costs for the owner. So the customer who is already suffering due to a faulty car has to pay again to run a car that he doesn’t want.

Although little comfort to anyone experiencing an issue, hopefully each problem that arises helps MG understand the faults and makes the whole diagnosis process faster - but unless this information is passed to individual dealers then it’s only going to be centralised knowledge within MG themselves.

I totally agree with your comments entirely.
As you are aware, my car was sitting at the dealers waiting for two parts for almost a month.
Running the hire car on derv cost us just shy of £150.00 in that four weeks !.
We have realised that returning to an ICE car now ( not that we would ) is not an option anyway !.
We could not afford to run one of cars, without cutting down on our trips out.
When enquired about the hire car, I did ask for a EV as a replacement.
I was told NO straight away !.
Even though the dealer had a ZS EV and a MG5 sitting on the car park.
The dealer was willing to let us have one, but MG would not cover the cost to the dealer.
They must be getting discount rates from the hire companies for ICE cars I guess.
The availability of replacement parts needs some radical work doing.
MG had a 30% increase in sales last year and are shooting higher for 2022.
The back up service in procurement of parts needs bringing up to speed as a matter of urgency.
In my case the total cost of the repair was around £2,500 for the sake of £155 worth of parts !.
That HAS to change moving forward !.
