MG ZS EV
Bit of an odd one hoping someone else may have experienced it though?

Got a 20 reg MG ZS EV had it since May this year we have been charging it using the 3 pin granny cable when at home and it worked great until just before christmas it now won’t charge for longer than 2 to 5 mins before it stops charging and the lights on the charger just has a solid power light and flashing charging light. I take the same charger and car to another house and it works (tried it at two houses one for an hour + and another for 4 hours and it worked) the car also works at fast chargers ok.

Just had an electrician round and he says the house and socket is fine and getting enough power.

It’s just so odd can’t figure out what is happening, anyone had anything similar?

Have you installed powerline adaptors to put the internet around the mains wiring or Sky Q? If so, turn these off and all should be working OK again

I guess you have tried a different socket at home or a different lead, also if your house is running at 210 volts it may cause a low voltage issue or a high voltage issue that the car is recognising as a fault and stops the charge, if you now someone with a ev ask them to plug in at your house to test their charger, you could even try just their car with all the same equipment and also borrow another's charger to plug in not much help but lots of options for fault finding. Good luck please post the answer if you find it.

Oh my god if we ever meet in person I owe you a drink! Plugged in a powerline adaptor when my other half got a ps5 before christmas and I didn’t unplug it after wards I should have thought, thank you so much!

It works ok for us in our situation when we move we’ll be sorting out a proper charger
I rarely use my Pod-Point charger. When the sun is shining, I use the granny charger to charge off the solar PV, otherwise I trickle charge overnight on off peak tariff. Only use the Pod-Point if I've run down to 20% or so (rare) and need to top it up to 80%-90% for the next day. Everybody's use case will be different.

Embarrassing to ask what’s a power line adapter?🙁
They plug into your domestic wall plug and carry internet signals around the house. Example if if want a computer upstairs connected via ethernet cable you'll plug one in near your router, connect it via ethernet cable and one upstairs near your computer and connect that one to your ethernet connector on computer. Your domestic wiring carries the signal and saves having long lengths of ethernet cable going from downstairs to upstairs (or wherever).

Powerline Based WiFi Extenders May Disrupt MG ZS EV Car Charging UPDATE
This confirms the issue, note an update from MG at least acknowledging the issue with EOP (ethernet over power such as BT home plunge devises). I am pretty sure the reason is poor electrical filtering in the MG charging electronics. It is true that EOP devises cause interference in your ring mains and it might help not to have a device in the same fused spur as your charger.

That's good to hear. I'd always say that the granny charger is just for emergencies. If your house wiring is a bit dodgy then pulling that much power through it for many hours on a regular basis might not end well.

At least it’s a known issue thankfully I don’t need them plugged in at the moment, will keep an eye out for updates though out of curiosity

Emergencies ? Never used anything else and covered 8k in 4 months. My oven pulls more wattage than a Granny charger ?

Yes but your oven should be on a dedicated 32 amp ring, like a charger would be.
I may stand corrected but it takes around 2.2kw and hence an empty to full charge takes around 20 hours. If you have the time for this its no problem so unsure why it should only be used for "emergencies" ?
Kettles don't run for hours on end, overnight unsupervised. Emergencies, because that's the only time I'd use a granny charger to charge an EV when no other option was available.

Spot on!
I used a granny in the period before our Wallbox Pulsar Plus was fitted. On the 13 amp setting the plug socket got really quite hot. My granny has variable output setting so I only used it on the 8 amp setting. Took longer but was eminently safer.
