Vehicle to Load (V2L) - Any Information or First Hand Experiences?

Many Chinese brand EVs have V2L function. The plug is about £50 in china. Basically it is an extension lead which can plug into the EV. I am going to buy one and have a try ( hair dryer, kettle, small induction cooker, microwave oven)
They look very happy with it anyway! :D

Official response from MG UK on the V2L adapter availability:

"With regards to your query, unfortunately, MG has not launched a V2L lead for UK customers yet. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause."

For those with a use case for V2L and who bought/ordered on the basis they will use the V2L functionality, it looks like a non-MG branded adapter will be required (Hyundai/Kia?). Or we sit and wait until MG launch one in the UK. I think MG UK need to make it clear the functionality requires an adapter and that they currently do not offer said adapter in the UK market.

V2L is a complete gimmick, I just can't see where it would be of much, or any value in the real world. Many of the car companies are promoting it to use when one goes camping - for the price of those adapters it's possible to buy a low-end solar generator and for around a hundred euros more add the portable panels (so don't need to recharge from mains) to give you far more flexibility than having to be within a few feet of the car (and compromising the range by using up your battery).

For example: 89.94£ |500w/peak 1000w portable power station 568Wh 153600mah Outdoor camping generator lithium battery (100w solar panel Optional )|Solar Battery Chargers & Charging Kits| - AliExpress

I'm sure there will be people for whom V2L will solve world hunger, but unless the adapters are sensibly priced, I can't see how this will really take off or be of use for anyone.
for me its useful for astronomy. Sure I can use its own battery pack for my scope, or rig some other larger rechargeable battery pack, but being able to plug it directly into the car would be very handy.

I can drive my car to some isolated, dark sky spot and even set up an entire astrophotography rig. I can stay nice and toasty in the car whilst i leave my rig on an exposure. Hell, I could even edit and stack the images on site. Would make the car an awesome astronomer/astrophotography rig.

Which one did you buy? I'm guessing it's similar to this one:

It's a Type 2 to Schuko adapter. I'm tempted to get one myself, only problem is my car won't be here until May!

Or perhaps this one:

Bear in mind that 7 pin ev socket in China is not the same size as European socket. It's a little bit smaller. I am going to buy an adaptor together with the discharge gun. I hope to receive it in two weeks time via FedEx. I understand why Kia dealer charge £400 for that. There are only 3 models in the UK has V2L: new MG zs, EV6, ioniq 5. Probably less than 600 cars on the road at the moment.

Yes, but that's got a plug for mating with the socket from an EVSE ("charger"). That's what you need to charge a scooter from a type 2 EVSE.

Beware! Some of the sites seem to have plug and socket swapped around in the images. (Though that could be me getting it backwards in my feeble memory. )

I'm not convinced that one of these cheap adapters (assuming that you get the correct plug or socket) will convince the car to push power out of the AC pins, when usually it will be wanting to receive power from those pins. But I'd be very pleased to be proven wrong.

Remember: a car has a "plug" (metal pins), and a flattened circular hole; the EVSE "charger" has a socket (metal sockets), and a protruding flattened circular shroud.

Much as an electrical appliance has a plug with metal pins, and the wall outlet is a socket that has a metal socket (hidden from view, but you know it must be in there). The difference with cars is that you take the socket on a cable to the car, not the other way around.

Yes. But I think if it says "Type 2", then you can be fairly assured that it is manufactured for the international market. The Chinese seem to use the label "GB/T" for their AC as well as their DC connectors. The gender of the GB/T AC connectors seems to be opposite, too; I don't know if there are other differences.

[ Edit: G/BT -> GB/T ]

It's confusing isn't it!
European standard, the car side is MALE, cable is FEMALE->MALE, Charger is FEMALE.
Chinese GB/T, car is FEMALE, cable both MALE, charger is FEMALE.

So I think the correct adapter, must have FEMALE type 2 on one side, and a normal socket, Schuko or UK Type G on the other side.

Will wait for @Ding 's adapter, hope it'll work and we can save some pretty pennies.

Ding, I'd be interested in a link to one of those cables. I've been searching far and wide for information on the V2L adapter (and protocol) and have found nothing.

You can buy the adapters from Kia, they just fit the standard charge port and the protocol is the same regardless of vehicle, so it will work with the MG but they are shockingly (pardon the pun) expensive

@JohnInFrance How do you know the V2L protocol is the same between different vehicle manufacturers? Can you point me to any information on the protocol. Cheers.

Can you not just change the plug for a socket on a standard Granny Lead that comes with most EVs?

the charging plug has circuit board inside for charging. It is not a just a plug. Surely V2L plug has another circuit board inside.
