MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

If ZS EV SR's are being built, but ZS EV LR's are still on shortage, surely the problem must be with the ZS EV LR's batteries and nothing to do with "ic chip or wiring harness" shortages.
The Battery Management System chips are essentially "per cell", and there more cells in the long range battery (though not as many as you might think, since they use higher voltage cells in the LR batteries).

So that's one possible reason; the other is that possibly the different chemistries dictates different BMS chips, and it happens that the LR chips are in shorter supply.

But the BMS is just one of about 20 or more ECUs in an EV; I would not have expected it to have a major effect on chip consumption. BMS chips aren't all that high tech either, though they are fairly specialised, unlike microcontrollers that could be used in many other products. I would expect the highest tech chips to be in the shortest supply, since only a small number of companies can manufacture them.

The large new Samsung chip factory in Texas won't be producing chips for another 2 years or so. It takes years to ramp these things up. A fire can "ramp them down" in hours.

Edit: it seems that Intel and Texas Instruments are also making major chip manufacturing investments, encouraged by the US Government's huge infrastructure bill. I'm sure that other plants are being built in other countries too.

LRs are being built just not for the UK market. Check the German forum they have quite a few deliveries recently. Another thought is that SRs are much more profitable so that’s what they’re making.

IMO sub £30k for LR Connect when the grant was available was such great deal and people who bought them at that price were “locked in”. So MG doesn’t have to worry about not fulfilling those orders at speed. Sure it may put some of us off the brand but so long as they keep their actual intention vague they will survive.

The wait continues!
I would have thought that after all the hype about the Long Range version last November that MG would have been trying to get a considerably larger amount made than they appear to have done.

We don’t know what’s holding up manufacturing. As an electronic engineer trying to get pretty much any parts right now is pot luck. SAIC and their suppliers will have more control than I do, but if it’s for example components only fitted to the long range battery that are scarce they’ll be making what they can actually make as complete vehicles, so standard range. They also won’t just be able to change designs either to use alternative parts as this takes a lot of time and expense.

Lots of people in the MG ZS EV groups on Facebook have had calls today saying their LRs will be here and ready by the end of the month - orders in Jan - I’m getting hopeful as my order was Feb and supposedly was a dealer order that they then allocated to me!! 😂😂😂 here’s hoping my dealer calls over the next few days! 😂😂😂

I am keeping them crossed🤞 for you folks !.
Face lift models are still very rare on the roads, I have only seen ONE other.
Hopefully that will change real soon.

I'm sure there will be LR aswell. Well I hope so 🤣
Hopefully so !.
I think this COULD be follow up batch of SE models after the initial wave of LR models ?.
There could be some LR customer orders on there as well ??? 🤞.
Miles being able to grab 60+ SR models, would indicate a big influx of SE models though ?.
He will be hoping that his LR Trophy Connect is on there some where !.

I ordered SE trim mid December. Hopefully I get a call soon . What makes you think that there is a load of SE coming?

Miles has grabbed 60+ cars from somewhere ????.
All SR models of different model spec's as well.
MG launched the face lift model with the LR model first to gain interest and orders, then follow this up with the SR model.
I believe this is the second wave of cars, that will contain a bigger percentage of SR models.
Only my opinion folks !.

I’m confused. Do you mean Standard Range rather than SE? SE is effectively the base spec?

Well hopefully my SE LR comes soon, got the usual response from MG. They don't seem to care, they know someone else will take the car if I cancel. Doubt I will get another MG after this leaee.

There seems to be some confusion. SR is what Miles is getting, in a mixture of trims - mainly Trophy, but some Connect & SE.

Sorry @Nutnut it was a typo error at my end !.
I have corrected it now !.
All "Standard Range" with different model spec's / trim levels.
A few Trophy Connects in there as well !.

So I finally spotted my first facelift ZS EV in the wild today….. and it’s in my village!
Same colour as my order too…what are the chances eh?

Perhaps it’s a sign (probably maybe hopefully).
Saw my first Trophy in the wild today, in Chester. Didn't manage to spot whether it's registered locally. The battersea blue was looking pretty good in the sunshine 😎

I live very close to Chester and have a Battersea Blue Trophy !.
Sorry, it was not our car.
We where in Llandudno today.
Wife fell asleep on the way home ( again ) the "EV Affect" strikes again :ROFLMAO: .

No worries! Hopefully this influx of cars helps people.

If enough people abandon their LR orders to take these up, the rest of us might stand a chance :ROFLMAO:
