Final jigsaw piece.... How far should I go up the Mway.

Beware that heading North the Banbury hub is only around 90 miles into your journey so you may get a reduced charging rate if you try to add too much charge - the 5 tends to slow down at higher %. The chart below was on a 150kW Rapid and a 50kW will tend to peak at around 45kW so will be approximately flat until 70% then drop significantly.

Personally I'd try to get to the McDonald's at J4 of the M42 on the way up.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in with their two-pennorth.... I'm collecting my new 5 LR on friday...

I'll look forward to everyone's hints, tips and advice on every subject in the future!

ABRP… 2 stops totalling 30 mins. Based upon having 20% SOC at destination and 15% SOC arriving at a charger. Max speed 70mph.

I’d be tempted to charge a little more at Rugby given it’s got 12 CCS connections but Tally’s End only has 2, so might need additional options if busy. So 70% at first stop & arrive at 2nd with 25% in case having to head a few miles further on for a free unit?

Wow, that pessimistic even for an SR, and @jackois is getting an LR. Using 81% for 124 miles implies ~ 150 total range. At this consumption I'd recommend driving slower to decrease consumption and hence recharging time.

You can play around with settings in ABRP to change speeds, number of charges etc.

ABRP has “Alpha” settings for MG5 LR so needs more data to be more accurate on consumption. I had the same with my LR SZ. After a while it learned and as an example a drive of 520 miles to Scotland had only 3 stops: 30 mins, 45 mins and 30 mins. I arrived with 40% SOC. The LR MG5 should be able to achieve similar range as it is a more efficient EV than the ZS.

I would suggest 1 stop at Rugby and charge to 90% then you you will get to Leeds with no issues.

I am using an OBD dongle with ABRP & subscription for my MG5LR - it learns your consumption over slow/medium/fast drives and uses this going forward to calculate range, stops, etc. Can't really say it's adding any real value but I do love a gadget 🤷‍♂️

It's using a value of 3.83 miles/kWh for my car with an 83% confidence level (this accuracy improves as it logs more drives) - some of this has been during colder weather and a range of mixed driving. Pretty sure the initial value it uses is nearer 3 miles/kWh which is too low for this weather unless exclusively doing fast motorway driving.

Excellent. I have the OBD2 dongle as well. This allows ABRP to dynamically adjust its consumption values. Mine gets within a couple of % now. I will have to look at what value it is using now it has learned. Users without the ODB2 dongle can manually adjust the consumption figure to give more accurate results.

I often do Southampton to Lincoln which is about 200 miles door to door and have yet to arrive with more than 20 miles range left either direction so Leeds on 1 charge is unlikely unless you do about 55 all the way. 70 on the motorway kills the range.

Southampton to Leeds is about 260 miles. This should easily be achieved with a single charge [edit] on the way

In 18c weather and a light right foot maybe.

In a car with wltp of 250 miles 'easily' covering a 260 mile journey with some spare juice in the tank for deviations/finding a charger seems a tad optimistic imo.

I think he meant with a single charging stop rather than one one charge.

I'd have thought that this time of year in an LR you should be able to do the entire trip without recharging?
Once my SOC turns red and shows less than 25% I only think where is the closest charger. Running the battery close to empty shortens it's life

If you go via Banbury, which I think is good leg from Southampton, you have 12 Instavolts and 6 Ospreys to choose from. I have the SR and did a 400 mile round trip charging up at Banbury on the outward and return legs. I used the Ospreys and was the only vehicle there.
I used the ones at Banbury this week, really impressed with them. Was pulling 80kw in my LR and if you sign up to the Bonnet app you can pay as little as 25ppkwh (or free if you have promo code) :)

Just to tidy up here.

I bought the 5LR in red, and made my first trip to Leeds on Sayurday.

Set off with 100%, ran at a maximum 70 to Rugby. Arrived with 37% SOC. Charged to 95%, as there was no-one waiting for a charger, in just over 30 minutes. The charger peaked at 80Kw charge rate and was still going at 28Kw when I terminated the charge. Very pleasant, all told with more people using the non Tesla chargers and jus 2 Tesla's on charge.

At this point I realised that I'd make my destination with around 35%, so abandoned the second stop at Skelton lake. Duly arrived with 35%. Extremely happy so far. Off to recharge at one of the local chargers tomorrow in preparation for the return journey next week.

Sounds all very comfortable - everything worked as expected and plenty of spare charge in case you needed Plan B etc. Let's hope it's always like that.

Apologies if I've missed the thread with the exact answer I'm looking for, but I've googled and scoured posts until I'm seeing double...

I'm on the verge of buying an MG5 lr. I've no qualms as to my everyday use of the car as my local travel isn't huge.

Once a month I run from Southampton to Leeds. 240 miles. I'm on Motorway/dual carriageway within ten minutes of setting off... how far do I get roughly before the need to charge?

I understand that mileage varies with weather conditions and I like to do the 70 on the motorway.

Many thanks, in advance.
Around 1/2 way should be fine, and a charge before return again 1/2 way back. Iv'e benn to Newcastle Derby Enfield, and more from home. Colwyn Bay no worries.
