Thanks my error is slightly different to yours. Picked up the car finally on Monday, it turned out to be a control unit error, they replaced the entire part (the gear selector bit).
I'm still very unhappy with how this was handled and how I was immobile for over 2 weeks after buying a brand...
Thanks I've asked them to check the 12v battery again, they say they will charge it and try it again.
I'm not sure it's a battery issue to be honest, it looks like a control/gear selector issue.
Yes keeping foot on brake until car finishes booting up.
Yes all doors and boot shut properly.
Lights are off and the x3 selector lights were still on.
AA recovery guy tried everything too, none of the simple steps helped.
The error message says 'Authold Fail'.
Yes all 3 drive selectors are on even though the car is 'off'.
Possibly there is an issue with the battery. However the MG5 has been in MG Ruislip for 10 days I assume they tried a different 12v battery already - something else has gone wrong! Thanks for...
Hi all I am looking for some help with my issue and how to deal with MG’s terrible customer service.
My MG5 suddenly stopped working: the car would start but I couldn’t select Drive/Neutral/Reverse and all the lights are on the gear selector. This is a video of the issue:
Here is my MG5...
Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean, are you saying the RCD is a multi-EU type that has no fuse? It doesn't look like it has a replaceable fuse however I assume that there is something that has a 'fuse' in the main plastic part with the buttons? Should I get one with a fuse built into the plug? I...
I just got the letter from my MG dealer yesterday telling me that my roof rails can only hold 35KG and to insert the addendum into the manual. Funny thing is I don't have roof rails, I bought the MG5 Excite trim!
I hope it is okay for me to post a video I made about my experiences charging using the granny-lead only on my MG5. This forum has been immensely helpful in suggesting new products to use to make charging safer for owners as well as pedestrians when running charge cables over the pavement.
Thanks for comments. I have ordered this RCD plus the waterproof extension so hopefully this should cover all eventualities. Still have a lot to learn, I started some research and looks like granny charging could potentially be quite a fire hazard as well..
I'm not sure what an RCD is? At home I have an external 3 pin socket with a waterproof cover which I use, I assume the electrician did the right thing and isolated this from the rest of the breakers?
When I was in the lodge I just plugged into an internal 3-pin plug, hopefully that would be...
Cable felt fine, I unravelled it fully so it doesn't coil up and generate too much heat.
Yes this made me realise I am taking unnecessary risks.. I've now ordered a waterproof extension cable which will be much safer I imagine! Thank you for prompting this :D.
I made a video about my experience of the MG5 EV as a family car and how it handles a a trip from London to Somerset. My testing is not very scientific, but I hope it demonstrates the MG5 has the range and size to cope with these medium range distances and a stay on a farm in the countryside.
Yes to all questions - you should be able to get the Excite for approximately £20,400 as this takes into account the recently decreased government grant.
