Thanks I've asked them to check the 12v battery again, they say they will charge it and try it again. I'm not sure it's a battery issue to be honest, it looks like a control/gear selector issue.

Yes keeping foot on brake until car finishes booting up. Yes all doors and boot shut properly. Lights are off and the x3 selector lights were still on. AA recovery guy tried everything too, none of the simple steps helped.

It doesn't look like it has a replaceable fuse however I assume that there is something that has a 'fuse' in the main plastic part with the buttons? Should I get one with a fuse built into the plug? I just got the letter from my MG dealer yesterday telling me that my roof rails can only hold 35KG and to insert the addendum into the manual. Funny thing is I don't have roof rails, I bought the MG5 Excite trim!

I hope it is okay for me to post a video I made about my experiences charging using the granny-lead only on my MG5. This forum has been immensely helpful in suggesting new products to use to make charging safer for owners as well as pedestrians when running charge cables over the pavement.

Thanks for comments. I have ordered this RCD plus the waterproof extension so hopefully this should cover all eventualities. Still have a lot to learn, I started some research and looks like granny charging could potentially be quite a fire hazard as well..

Cable felt fine, I unravelled it fully so it doesn't coil up and generate too much heat. Yes this made me realise I am taking unnecessary risks.. I've now ordered a waterproof extension cable which will be much safer I imagine! Thank you for prompting this :D.
