Showed photos to pebbles and asked her what it looked like.
She said MG4 straight away.
I had already commented that on the video.
As we had Ibiza's previously we were primed for an equivalent when looking for an EV a few years ago, but no electric available.
Do like the look of it. But I'm...
I'm pretty sure you can do both.
As long as one is compatible then you can use Intelligent Go.
We are on Unintelligent Go which is your worst case scenario, but if you've got a modern Ohme you should be fine.
Could be lots of reasons as others have mentioned.
It could be that the site as a whole had its power throttled by the grid.
More likely it was your car that was limiting the power to protect the battery but you seem to have done a lot of the right things to avoid that.
Here is the...
Welcome to the forum!
Not sure what you mean by this. But MGs don't work directly with Octopus intelligent, so you will need a charger that does.
Ohme does work with it, as far as I'm aware.
But maybe I've misunderstood your question.
Well, the car is up for its first MOT next month.
As it will be three years old I guess that means I'll have to throw the battery away and buy a brand new one.
How much does a new MG4 battery cost these days? About £100k?
May as well just scrap the car and buy a new one. Sigh.
There is a reason why Ethiopia (for all its problems) has banned ICE vehicles and are going all in on electric. They can't afford the (fossil) fuel and have a massive hydropower dam and plenty of solar potential to charge EVs!
Hah, invest in some cheap second hand EVs now before people realise they've been duped by the fossil fuel lobby!
At what fuel price per litre do anti-EV or "never-EV" people switch?
£1.50
£2.00
£2.50
£3.00?
Depends how brainwashed they are I suppose.
I can understand that ICE will continue to exist for its unique features.
As an analogy, people still like steam engines, even though they are massively inefficient and electric trains (including diesel electric) have taken over.
All the noise and smoke and so on adds something.
ICE people...
Not as much as an ICE vehicle!
After all, our MG4 it will still work and the infrastructure will continue to improve which will make things easier and easier.
I've just looked it up on EV Database and it is pretty close to the Mii.
Mii is 258 Wh/mi (3.88 mi/kWh)
MG4 Urban SR 262 Wh/mi (3.8)
MG4 Urban LR 264 Wh/mi (3.79)
MG4 Premium 280 Wh/mil (3.57)
This is the combined cycle efficiency, so if you drive mostly...
Yeah I think everyone is going to get converted once they realise how much BS is out there.
My neighbours got an EV recently. They have asked to use our charger overnight tonight. Why is that? Because it has such a long range they don't need to charge it regularly, which meant they didn't...
That seems common for garages unless they are right out in the sticks.
Also car hire companies.
Constantly moving cars around as they are in the way of each other.
I just love the traffic lights at the motorway/dual carriageway junction...
I'm at the end of the slip-road merging onto the dual carriageway and the ICE cars are barely onto the slip road. And I just have the 125kW SE SR!
Oh dear, toxic masculinity alive and well, then.
I don't get it myself.
I have a former colleague (now just a facebook connection) who is into cars and bikes and he seemed to like my EV posts when I first got mine. Assumed he appreciated the acceleration.
There is a house on my morning dog-walk route that has two MG4s. A black one and a red one, a few years old.
I finally saw a resident and asked him if he worked for MG given that he had two. He confirmed he did not. I wasn't sure how great his English was (he was maybe Chinese or Korean), but...
Yeah, for me I would pay to reduce my emissions (in the past I have bought carbon credits) so knowing I am using/sharing clean energy and displacing gas generation is also the main benefit.
But it is nice as a risk-averse person to know that we will be much less impacted by any energy price...
With Givenergy being in administration I have switched over to using the timer on the car rather than the EVSE.
I have been leaving the EVSE on a 24 hour schedule.
This seems to go wrong more than it goes right. Either it doesn't charge overnight or it starts charging straight away when I...
2nd vote for the Zoe. Polo sized car, but a little bit taller so perhaps better good for someone with knee issues.
I don't know anything about hybrid options.
Our Octopus bill for this month was -£43.65. I.e. we got that amount of credit on our account to cover us during the winter.
Not even able to use Flux (which pays several times the export rate) because it isn't currently available. Just with 12p export rate.
From the few images you get I'd that is a really nice looking car.
The video hardly shows the outside! Much more interested in the cabin and tech etc.
Perhaps aware that it is a knock-off!
Hah - Just watching this right now and came here to share it.
Particularly because he has a discount code for heatable, who seem to be one of the best options at the moment with their 0% interest deal.
Glad to hear it. There are only a few niche use cases in the UK where an EV isn't the better option. (Like people who need to take their skis and a caravan all the way to the alps in no more than nine hours for some reason).
Hope our little community here has helped you realise that all the...
There are a few You Tube channels which discuss solar as a good investment, better than investing in stocks and shares etc.
I've got solar and if anything I wish we had invested a bit more in it than we did.
I'm now eyeing up our garage and garden fence but Pebbles says I've done enough...
A bit worrying.
Italian cars famous for it. Have heard that 70s and 80s Alfa Romeos wouldn't last ten years from an Alfa afficionado.
But British cars were pretty bad in the 80s and 90s, I think.
Was fighting rust on our Rover metro and it wasn't that old.
My Dad had a couple of Mercs in the...
Indeed, if its zero percent and you can afford it over the term then there is no problem, is there!
I would have got ours on 0% if it was offered even though we had the cash, but they weren't offering that on ex-demo cars. Shame - could have put the cash in an interest bearing account in the...
I know what you are saying. When you are starting out in life (or in a fix), credit might well be necessary.
Plus there are also sometimes good deals available for interest free loans and things like that.
However, if you need a car and need to use credit then there is the choice to either a)...
Similar.
My Grandparent's wisdom was 'neither a borrower or lender be.'
Probably more about not lending money to mates because it might ruin your relationship, but the avoiding debts part is a very good starting point.
Yes, it no doubt tracks with the age profile we discovered in a previous poll.
Who has both the money for an EV and the time to hang out on a forum regularly? Not many people with kids in the house probably. I don't have kids, which explains it!
Poll, not pole!
Thought you'd had your eyes done as well!
You do need a flag on the MG4 these days, though, since they are surrounded by SUVs and vans and you can't see it
Yeah, there are those worries about overflowing etc.
I was also thinking that someone might be away from the car for a long time and the pump would be unavailable to other customers.
The latest video from Everything Electric has reminded me that I should have tagged this as 'destination charging.'
This is another great feature of EVs. As well as charging overnight while you sleep, EVs can charge while you are just doing something else.
My initial story was a case of...
I've added 'trade-in' to cover those for whom this was a major component.
Also enabled three selections.
We also part-paid through a trade-in, but it was a 13 year old Seat Ibiza so a small fraction of the cost that doesn't seem worth noting.
@boyfrom64 has set up a thread, How do you finance the purchase of your car, which seemed ripe for a poll.
I thought there was a poll on this at some point but I couldn't find one so I thought I would set one up.
I've allowed two choices because I know a few of you have had more than one MGEV.
What about a Zoe, Corsa or E-208?
These have been around a long time and are now very cheap second hand.
Or the kona, mokka or e-2008 which might be slightly larger?
Could be worth doing a poll on this if we don't already have one on the forum.
Perhaps, but possibly not that much. What...
Vegetarian lasagne tonight. Another favourite.
The red layer will be part of the bolognaise we made yesterday. Will need to make a white sauce out of butter, flour and milk for the lasagne layering.
Yeah, a fair chunk, though not as much as I previously expected.
It is a Vaillant arotherm plus, definitely inverter-driven.
Good to know.
Tariffs are always changing.
Good to have a bit of flexibility over the choice and how and when to use the electricity with smart equipment.
It is 5kw output, but usually pulls about 1150w when I look at the app.
I think it pulls more when it is really cold. I doubt it pulls more than 1500w but I don't know for sure.
I suppose the start-up is higher but brief. That would be the problem with running the heat pump in off-grid...
Oooh, this could have been a poll.
The value proposition for us, plus sporty enough looks.
Golf-sized car for the same money (or less) than cars a size down.
Red wine right now. Shiraz which isn't my usual so must have been on Aldi super deal.
We've had pasta so I like a red with that.
Usually have a decaf tea between 9.30 and 10.30.
Very nice.
You mean people who want to go EV but are too frightened as a result of all of the FUD! (fear, uncertainty and doubt)
Often its the same manufacturers who offer an ICE, hybrid and EVs! Some, particularly Toyota, have been massively caught out and so keep promising hydrogen and imminent...
That's not good.
None of us used to know about living with an EV, and it has changed (got much easier) over time. I find this community quite positive and helpful for the most part.
I think EV owners get sick of all the anti-EV BS that is out there, though, and perhaps some struggled to tell...
Mate, you're on an EV forum! :ROFLMAO:
We're the people who are making it work even if the UK infrastructure is slightly behind the cars.
Desperately fiddling with things and adding loads of complexity to edge up the engine efficiency from 30% to 33%.
Meanwhile EVs are 90% efficient.
It is 5kw but only outputs 4kw from the battery when there is no sun.
Seems to cover us almost all of the time. Very occasionally slightly delay putting the kettle until the oven has warmed up etc. But generally we just put things on without worrying about it.
I was really surprised this...
Thanks John - useful to others.
We are fairly ahead of the game already, but I'm always considering adding to our existing system.
Our Air-Water heat pump averaged 4.75 COP over the winter and I would have thought our 35 y/o basic gas boiler would have been 80% efficient at best.
It seemed...
Indeed, we shouldn't go short of gas in the UK, but LNG is priced on a global basis.
Europe relies on LNG imports because Norway can't supply all of Europe.
So if LNG prices go up other countries will offer Norway more for their gas and the price will go up.
If we had struck a special deal...
Firms trying to engineer a few extra percentage of efficiency out of combustion engines to justify their continuation.
I think it shows desperation in the face of the coming EV wave.
I'm thinking ahead to the coming (European) winter and what the energy prices might be like.
From what I understand it will take 8 months for oil and gas to get flowing from the gulf again AFTER the end of the blockage there. So if somehow Trump and the Iranians agreed with each other Energy...
