Just to say thank you to all those who have so far contributed to this thread. It may be in a few years that the cheapest way of adding ~60kwh of battery storage to your house solar system is to purchase an old EV. You can nearly get an MG EV for less than the price of 15kwh of solax batteries...
Does anyone know if MG are looking at V2G capability for any of the the existing models as an upgrade or any of the future models?
Regards, Chris.
I found this searching on the web:
InterControl using an Ambibox GmbH bidirectional charger successfully trialled V2H/V2G with the MG4 without...
Shouldn't be an issue exporting the battery to the grid. There is nothing in the T's & C's from Octopus to say you can't do that that I can see. They don't know where the electrons are coming from. How do you tell if you are using green or black electrons when your electric company says that...
I have had both issues, the pin holding the rubber covers falls out all the time. Superglue or Gorilla glue to fix. Also during the winter I could not get the charging flap open at night during freezing conditions. It had to be forced open which damaged the locking mechanism, which was then...
It is a little special in that I have the EV Charger on its own separate circuit. I have a second set of tails out of the meter. That means I can have the Ohme CT clamp on its own tail. The Solar and Batteries have their own tails and hence the Inverters CT Clamp does not see when the car is...
Just to clarify, I have the EV charging on a separate circuit to the Solar and Battery, so using intelligent Octopus it only charges at the 7p rate and does not use the battery storage at all. The iBoost is scheduled to heat the immersion heater during the 7p cheap rate period so by the time we...
There is a setting on the solar boost that allows you to set the start kW. It only kicks in when the export level is at peak of 4kw. Then extra goes to the immersion heater. It has a CT clamp on the main tails like the inverter has.
One thing to remember is that with the current heating oil price at 56p / litre it is actually cheaper to heat your hot water using your boiler than using the immersion heater. 1 litre of oil is the equivalent of 10kw of electricity, (roughly speaking). So with IOG, during offpeak, at 7p it is...
You make no mention of your SEG rate. Intelligent Octopus Go gives you 15p for export as an Octopus customer. For 5 months of the year I don't pay any electric bills, Octopus pay me!
Regards, Chris.
Thought I might share with you our setup which now is paying us up to £30 per month:
The key to all of this is the differential between Octopus Intelligent Go and SEG payments from Octopus, (or any other provider). 7p inbound against 15p export with Octopus. You need to ensure that you export...
Mine broke last winter in the frost and had to be replaced by my dealer under warranty. Bad design. The plastic port covers are not too good either. They are attached by rubber strings to a peg pushed into the bodywork. That peg is now falling out. Year old mg5 LR
Folks, we have had serious rain this month. Are there any guidelines as to what depth of water it is safe to go through with an EV. Not sure how waterproof the battery compartment is? With an ICE you can go as deep as the air intake so long as you don't open the doors. No so sure with an EV...
