I would simply add that the perceived wisdom seems to be that a balancing charge should be in one ‘go’. I don’t get this with my tariff (Octopus IOG), as Octopus stop-go their intelligent charging, so I opt out of Octopus temporarily and set a balancing charge on my charger.

My basic advice would be to ignore the GOM. Unless reset (see earlier post) its calculation is based upon recent usage. Whether you have thrashed your MG4 = low figure, or driven gently at 30mph = a higher figure, you will achieve what you achieve on your current drive. Let experience teach you...

I had always thought that, for NMC batteries, you can balance from any battery percentage and that a balancing charge from less than 10% is only needed once or twice a year. But I could be wrong!

I wondered if it could be something to do with the stop/go charging - myenergi recording everything and the Octopus monitor missing miniscule amounts of charge.

For me, the basic choice was down to mileage. I have family and friends living 200-220 miles away. Even in winter, I know I can get therein my EV without charging en route; I probably wouldn’t make it in bad conditions in an LR.

I use it at traffic lights or a junction, when dark, to avoid blinding a driver behind me.

Please don’t do this. It is contrary to Octopus’s T & C’s and the more people that do it the more likely Octopus are to react to the detriment of all users. Ask for the percentage charge you car needs and be grateful for what is offered = 6 hours cheap electricity and if, occasionally, you need...
