EVs now beating petrol on lease costs?

So, how would that work with the UK's minimum wage of approx. £12 per hour, China around £3 per hour and Indonesia less than £1.50 per hour?

Snow Mode! What does it do?

One of my old vehicles had an ABS disable button, which was great for use in snow. Much better, IMHO to lock the front wheels and let them dig into snow than detect a bit of slippage and release the brakes. But, hey ho, I haven't seen that on a car in the last 20+ years :( And I doubt snow...

And @siteguru should do a commentary for that, complete with an inset power-point presentation, Chris Whitty style, to explain the deceleration forces and the rules when it lights up and doesn't :) Then post that as a sticky for the next 10 times the same question is raised ;)

    Is my battery advice helping?

That will be a design issue and will depend on length of cable run and fixing method reference method (e.g. whether in free air, buried in plaster or under insulation etc.) as defined in Appendix 4 of BS7671. Other factors will need to be considered such as proximity to other parallel load...

Home Chargers - Cold weather issues, or more FUD?

Some vehicle's BMS system will restrict charging when temps are low and SOC are high. Ours did that this week when it was -4C - as the SOC increased above 70% the charge rate dropped - though never stopped.

MG4 powering other stuff (Vehicle to Load aka ‘V2L’)

I would expect the output of that to be similar to the MG's V2L - i.e. floating earth. So I suspect you'll have the same issue. No (to your question in bold). IMHO the "issue" or rather the "safety check" that is correctly being performed by the vehicle's charger is to make sure an earth...

MG4 powering other stuff (Vehicle to Load aka ‘V2L’)

In the UK, you would effectively need to create a "TT" earthing arrangement - I suspect same down-under but you would need to check local regs. It will require N-E bonding at the source, a suitable earthing rod and then RCD protection of the supplied circuit. Suggest you use a sparky to set...

    Reduced charging rate at -5C

I didn't realise (until last night) that EV's / some EV's reduce their charge rate when just charging via a home 7kW charger (i.e. not just on rapid DC chargers) when the temp is low and the SOC high  Is this common to all EV's or just certain makes? Wondering if those out there that have...

Is my idea crazy or should I pursue it further?

It is indeed 3680W... in my defence, UK Power Networks round it to 3.6kW in their application forms. Not that we ever "see" the nominal 230V. It's either around 250V when we're exporting or 220V (if we're lucky) when charging.

Totally agree with all that... you were one of the "others have done that" when I mentioned using V2L to charge home storage batteries. Well, nearly everything you said... ... the pedant in me will clarify that the cut-off between G98 notification and G99 approval is 3.6kW (16A at nominal...

Is my idea crazy or should I pursue it further?

I think the Ioniq 5 is only V2L, same as MG4 but with 3.6kW output. Ioniq 7 is rumoured to support V2H, but it will be a while until they're MOT failures of those.

Is my idea crazy or should I pursue it further?

I thought that bi-directional V2H capable chargers like theirs currently cost around £5K and require an EV such as the ID.4 that provides bi-directional DC charging 🤷‍♀️ Regular V2L systems (e.g. as found in Kia / Hyundai and MG + some Renault) can't be grid tied. You can, of course, use the...
  46. Everest

Is my idea crazy or should I pursue it further?

    1) Losses. Not just the inverter conversion losses, but the V2L operation will consume (from various research I did on exactly your proposal) around 250W quiescent usage for the vehicle's electronics. That's no big deal when you're powering your kettle or oven. But when your house is...
