I always used Nikwax but there are many good products available. If you are spraying it then make sure your bodywork is covered but it is easy to apply with a paintbrush.

The first thing I would recommend is getting your roof properly waterproofed and kept protected while you keep the car. It is a do-it-yourself job and inexpensive. I have just sold my CLK55 AMG Cabriolet which I had from 2003. The roof was re-protected every year and remains in excellent condition.
