    Bad month for solar generation

Ours managed 66kw for December for a 4kw array on a south west facing roof on the North Devon coast. I'm fine with that kind of generation this time of year. We supplement this by charging the house batteries from the grid on cheap power overnight and we have a Ripple Wind Farm investment...

    Install aftermarket DAB antenna

Has anyone installed an aftermarket roof mounted DAB antenna on their car? Thinking of installing one on my 2021 PFL 5 as the DAB reception is awful. Hoping someone has already done this and can offer some advice particularly around getting the infotainment system out and routing the cable...

So what range were you getting in recent cold weather?

I think rain and wind seem to hit our range more than temperature but, having had the car over 3 years now, I can't say theres anything that dents it enough to worry me, even the heater. We seem to average about 3.7mi/kWh in winter when the weather is typically bad and 4.3 in summer. Because of...

Latest up date on the MG5 from James 143000 mile and nothing gone wrong

That's a surprise, ours passed its first MOT last month at 35k miles with no advisories. Brakes show minimal signs of wear. There's no link between regenerative breaking and friction brakes so if I was you I'd be asking the garage some uncomfortable questions and probably not taking my car there...

    Steering angle reset?

When the wheel alignment is set up the ADAS needs to be recalibrated (unless you have an early 5 SR without ADAS). This is a job for the dealer really. Some of the fast fit chains have the equipment too but we found the dealer was cheaper for doing the wheel alignment.

    Quirks of the MG5

Ours is the same age as yours but we've had it from new so had plenty of time to get used to the quirks. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I hate the digital speedo; I'm not blind, I don't need my speed displayed in a font and size that can probably be read by the driver of the car...

    Octopus and Project EV chargers

For between 7 to 8 months of the year we only charge using the granny charger and don't have any issues with it or the socket getting hot. We've basically got the granny charger plugged into an outside socket which has a Shelley device attached to it. That is controlled through home assistant so...

    This is rather alarming news

Not alarming at all, occasionally electrical faults occur and cause fires. The fact it was an EV charger is irrelevant really except to the anti-ev mobs that seem to frequent social media platforms.

    Uneven Tyre Wear

We've just had to have both fronts replaced at 22k due to uneven wear but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Wheel alignment being out is just a fact of life given the state of roads these days. Unfortunately we've got to wait another month before the dealer can do the wheel alignment...

    Charging Port Soaked

Really don't think it matters, we've had our car 2.5 years now. We live on the North Devon coast in a very exposed position where 50+ mph winds with driving rain are common. The rain here literally comes in sideways! Our car sits out in it with the charger connected with no problems at all. I...

Are you using a frunk? {aka froot)

No frunk but my cable has lived under the bonnet for pretty much the entire 2 years we've had the car. It's easier to get to there. The cable is right where it's needed, not the opposite end of the car to the charging point and I quickly discovered, if I kept it in the boot it just got buried...

    Infotainment system video input

Has anybody seen the infotainment system on the Pre-Facelift LR removed from the car? Wondering what connections it has, if any and how much of a challenge it is to remove. Want to try and fit a 360 degree camera system without adding another screen if possible.

    Route planning ?

I tend to use Plug Share and try to avoid the electric highway chargers on the M5 from Gloucester onwards as they tend to be unreliable and have queues, although there are new chargers in Exeter which are much better. I find Cornwall to be the worst place for chargers. Overall I have found...

    Are electricians ripping us off?

The charger might be £700 but then add a consumer unit, some very pricey armoured cable, CT clamp, breaker etc and you've probably got £850 just in materials. He's also got to cover the cost of a lot of training, buying/running a van, paying his personal tax and national insurance, VAT...

Buying an EV Beware and watch this first

No better way to burn money than buying new cars and that's the same whether you buy EV or ICE. If you do but one, you'll get best value by treating it well and keeping it until it reaches end of life.
