    Range and Charge Rate

I don't think bad BMS is a thing on the MG5, but otherwise yes. I've been seeing around 3 miles/kWh out of mine as well. I've read that the efficiency gets better on longer runs - presumably as the HV battery heats up to its preferred temperature. It's certainly got active battery cooling but...

UPDATE (Are the MG5 headlights bright enough? Has anyone upgraded them?)

Almost certainly no saving. Yes LEDs do use less energy than incandescent lamps. So much less, in fact, that car systems are prone to thinking the lamp has failed, whereupon they will give an error. The fix for this is to throw a great big resistor in line with the LED lamp, thereby...

Navigation: Agree to the Ts and C's each time it's turned on. Really?

I appreciate it’s answering a different question than the one you asked, but honestly if you have a half-recent smartphone I’d just plug that in and bypass the in-built satnav entirely. My personal preference is for Waze, but Apple Maps and Google Maps both work perfectly well, and no doubt...

    MG5 Spare wheel kit

I’m almost certain it’s the same as the Golf wheel I bought and successfully fitted (pictures on p1 of this thread). The description says offset 42 but I suspect that’s been copy/pasted from a different wheel as I checked out a few other Scirocco spare wheels on eBay and where the inside is...

    MG5 Excite vs Exclusive

Excite owner here. Possibly just being contrary, but to me the (p?)leather seats in the Exclusive would have been a significant downgrade - I wanted fabric. Someone mentioned automatic headlights upthread - just to confirm that the Excite does have auto lights. Folding/dimming/heated mirrors...

    MG5 Spare wheel kit

The ZSEV spare wheel will fit on the MG5, but it might not fit in the wheel well under the MG5's boot floor (the foam bit seems to be deeper). Of course you could just take the wheel out of the foam carrier and put it straight into the wheel well. I've successfully jacked up my MG5 without...

    Apeman C860 Dash Cam

I looked at those but I didn’t think the other occupants of the car would like being on video. I also had my doubts about how good/useable the quality would be compared to a view directly through the rear glass.

    charge stations Iced

No such thing exists. The danger of death would be too great, I would think. Just in terms of simple practicality, the amount of electricity being moved around by a DC rapid charger is so much greater than your usual AC, it needs super heavy gauge wiring (=weight) and possibly even active...

    Apeman C860 Dash Cam

I used some self-adhesive cable clips like so: 5 metre cable runs all the way along the passenger side, meets the front camera cable at the top of the A-pillar, they both go behind the glove box and come out at a dual USB adapter in the centre console.

    Charging EV5

Just be careful with the plug-in timer. Someone in the BMW i3 owners' group posted this photo of a passthrough plug (in this case a 'smart' type controlled remotely by wi-fi, but same idea): You can see it's supposed to be rated for 13A, but the sustained 10A load from a car charger turned...

    Locking Wheel Nuts

Right, that would make sense if the wheel well in the ZSEV is deeper than the one in the MG5 (almost exactly 5”/12.5cm). The MG5 boot floor is not very rigid at all - it’s just some thin cloth glued to a 4mm bit of corrugated plastic. Evidently it’s designed to be supported from underneath...

    MG5 EV Poor Range

From time to time you’re supposed to leave your MG EV on AC charge for a few extra hours after it gets to 100%, rather than disconnecting it straight away. It draws a small amount of power - nothing like the usual amount it would draw for actual charging - and uses it to make sure all the...

    Locking Wheel Nuts

I was going to say. If you’ve got the official ZSEV spare wheel kit, I’d be really interested to know how it’s actually different from the MG5 one. I would not be surprised if it fits in the MG5 with little or no modification.

What's your longest journey in your EV? How many charging stops?

One of, if not the longest EV trips I’ve made was to play a show in Harrogate, North Yorkshire a couple of years ago. I live in Kent so it’s about a 500-mile round trip. I had an i3 at the time, which was good for about 100 motorway miles on one charge. Looking back, apparently I stopped twice...

    Locking Wheel Nuts

You don’t get a jack with the MG5. This is what’s under the boot floor: Can of gunge, 12V compressor, towing eye, and a pair of plastic tweezer things to remove the decorative wheel nut covers. If you buy the official MG spare wheel kit, that comes with jack and wheel brace. Edited to add...
