If you moved out of EV which said you did the engine may be used, staying in EV you may have not used the engine but the car decides if the engine is need or not and will cut in as need in ether mode.

I think you need to get used to the car before saying that this is a fault, what is GEV mode and what does it do or do you mean HEV.
