I still drive a Golf GTI Mk 7. I wanted an EV around the same size and bloody quick, ideally cheap. So I knew it would be Chinese. Only the XPower thrilled me in the price/performance/practicality stakes.

Type 2 cable but I thought that was standard. £500 off because I said I’d seen such an offer elsewhere. Another £800 off when they refunded me for the green paint option. Never worked out why hehe.

Range isn’t an issue if you have a home charger. I got the XPower because I wanted to experience the EV revolution every time I drive. EVs will only get faster - or rather, more and more cheap EVs will be fast - so going for a conservative choice risks leaving yourself feeling you don’t have...

I agree. Anyone who cares about car performance will spot an XPower a mile off. The only stealth element here is the fact that the car isn't shaped and painted to attract attention. To my mind a big positive. You look at hot Hondas, for example, and just wince.

My point was that if your phone doesn't have data then the hotspot provides it, following which the phone is able to run CarPlay. Since the hotspot is free and apparently unlimited, you get CarPlay at no charge and without even needing a phone plan.

Back in the UK and catching up with my XPower. Finally realised the hotspot password isn’t the MG password I chose originally or the PIN but a separate password given in the infotainment. Tried it with my iPhone 14. Worked first time. And it supports Apple CarPlay. The car gives the phone...

I drove my XPower quite a bit today on various A and B roads. Plenty of bends and gradients. I struggled to find anything wrong with the handling and found a lot right with the drive in general.

Just be thankful you don’t have to drive in the Middle East.

I'm very happy with my matte green but think MG could widen the options. I'd propose: Yellow (bright yellow that is) Lime (think Skoda Superb vRS) Light grey (non-metallic - hey, it's on-trend) And how about some rally-inspired decals? Come to think of it: matte black.
