I think your theoiry might be sound. With the Octopus app set to the MG4 the max charge rate I have seen in the MG app was 5.8kw, I changed the car to a Smart #1 pro+ and the MG app now says 6.2kw, 6.7kw in the Hypervolt app. I will see how it goes.
