Adding rear speakers to the SE

I'm going to try and turn this weird oversight in to an asset :p Mount a cheap old Android phone to the dash somewhere, connected to a Bluetooth speaker in the rear footwell. Set up IFTTT rules to connect everything up when I get into the car. Use the old Android phone to play kids music into...

    Running out of Electricity!

Ha. Yeah... never try that. I remember one particularly unlucky journey in my Leaf where 3(!) rapid chargers in a row were out of order. In Cornwall, which doesn't exactly have an abundance of chargers as it is (or didn't at the time). I had a choice - knock on doors until someone let's me...

Nov 17th Budget - Tax impact for EVs

Goes a lot further than I thought it would. Really surprised about the change for pre-2017 cars. That's going to raise a pittance and brings up a weird existential question about why, under a system which uses tailpipe emissions to determine the applicable rate, a vehicle which emits nothing...

    MG4 vs Ora Cat 😳

I don't hate how it looks (except the back end - butt ugly :ROFLMAO:). Interior looks nice, and a great amount of kit in there (inc. stuff that MG aren't including on the 4, like one-pedal driving and voice control). Three-phase charging (11kW only?) seems to be supported, which is a welcome...

Nov 17th Budget - Tax impact for EVs

About the worst I would expect is the immediate application of VED to all BEVs registered on or after 01/04/17, alongside the application of the additional rate for all new registrations, where the list price is over £40k. BEVs will either attract the alternative fuels rate, or be given a new...

    PCP Interest Rates

See post #49 RCI Bank, 4.9% AER on a 4 year fixed savings account. There are a few other accounts close to this too.

    PCP Interest Rates

You asked. I (almost) delivered. Your calculating this wrong though. Scenario A You buy the car outright and put £246/month back in to savings. After 4 years, you have £13k in savings and own a car worth approximately £15.5k. Scenario B You finance the car using MG's PCP offer. This leaves...

    PCP Interest Rates

RCI Bank's 4 year fixed savings account lands within £300 of that figure. If the interest rate holds up in month 49, then it would be within £160.

    PCP Interest Rates

There was a similar thing with Zoes around the same time. Got mine in 2015. £500 deposit, £40/month PCP, £79/month battery lease. GMFV was £8,500. Difficult to believe it given current values, but when the agreement came to an end two years later, the car was only worth £5,500-£6,000. The...

    MG4 Batteries

They're different battery chemistries. Plenty of detailed explanations on here, but the gist of it is that the optimum treatment of the LR batteries is to keep them within the 20% to 80% charge range day-to-day. What he said seems to be a misunderstanding of this.

Official Plug In Car Grant (PICG) Thread

I'm going with this being a mistake caused by poor wording. The mention of March '23 likely refers to the current end date of the grant for eligible vehicles (taxis, vans, motorbikes, etc.). The sole change here is that the claims window is being widened from 12 months to 18 months.

    AC Charging Speed

Not sure how much anyone should read in to this, but the manual contains charging times on an 11kW charger. It also mentions that the Heat Pump is connected to fuse F86.

After market MG4 SE reversing camera

Lack of rear camera on the SE is the main drawback for me too, so I'll be watching this thread with interest. I'm bothered, but not bothered enough to spend thousands of pounds extra on a Trophy.

    Charging costs

Worth bearing in mind when doing these calculations that the miles per kWh figure shown in the vehicle doesn't equate to the amount of kWh that you're paying for. There are losses between the meter and the battery. The MG4's "meter to wheel" efficiency is likely somewhere in the 3 miles per kWh...
