Not sure if this will help, but it's something that I have used to help keep the battery in good condition. Hopefully the link will work...

Basically the same idea as yours, but if it's anything like the one my friend has "Yellow" lights (he works for the council) they would see the leds even if they are not on. Especially at night.

This might be a better version as its less obvious when turned off..

My MG4 Trophy has done it a couple of times when I was reversing into a parking space and I thought I had hit something the car stopped so quickly. You do feel like you have hit a brick wall. Especially embarrassing in traffic.
