Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

I seem to recall that it was announced in the budget that there'd be a review into public charging costs (running from spring to autumn in 2026 I think, but could def be wrong on time scale). Presumably Tesla are making a decent profit on their chargers, which begs the question why Gridserve...

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

I'd just like to point out that I think all 2014 VW Golfs (very willing to be corrected) were affected by the Dieselgate emissions scandal and if the true emissions were ever to be taken into account then they would likely be in band G for VED, which is currently £265 pa. Then again, real-life...

The ppm rates of 3ppm and 1.5ppm are (to be) index linked

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

@tsedge The thing is, it is likely just that: a perception. Yes, there are always going to be instances of poorly spent public money (and fraud), and those will be pounced on by the press, especially if they have political axes to bear, and these should be minimised. But in the round, compared...

It's everyone's democratic (and undemocratic) right to complain about taxation (I do, too). Hell, it's been happening at least since Robin Hood was 'alive', after those pesky Normans poked Harold in the eye at Hastings... and I think the Bible mentions such issues. However, services, defence of...

    Sudden Increased Range

It's a hangover from your recent driving (e.g. a lot of downhill and energy recovery). It can go the opposite way too! I never reset on my MG5, as it sorts itself out eventually. I just mentally attuned myself to the fact that 1% battery is roughly equivalent to around 1.8 to 2.2 miles distance...

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

I'd urge caution. The statement she made was "There are no proposals to introduce a national pay-per-mile scheme. This Government are firmly on the side of drivers. As I have set out, we are pumping £24 billion of capital into motorways and local roads, with a record £1.6 billion for local roads...

Not just motorways. Don't you just love the tailgaters in a 30mph limit dying to overtake you the moment the limit raises to 40 or 50mph?

People thought that about Trump in 2016 and 2024! The electorate are idiots or have vested short-term interests.

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

There is no enforceable limit on rest time for domestic & pleasure drivers, but the Highway Code (Rule 91) recommends at least 15 minutes every 2 hours. Guess what? Unless on a very long motorway (and/or breaking speed limits), one will rarely be more than around the 100 miles from your starting...

Sadly, double taxation is not unlawful (in the UK). My two-person company 'profits' are taxed and then we take a company dividend from those 'profits', which is also then taxed. And there are other instances of double taxation. But there are appropriate reliefs to 'ease the burden' in some areas...

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

Can I have £2.16 back please Mr HMRC? Yes, I'll be applying for a tax rebate equivalent to around 115 km per annum, based on the fact I live a little over 100 m down a shared private lane before I get to an adopted road 🤣

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

There's elements that are correct in his assessment. However... The reason for the zero emissions target is because of the need to militate and mitigate GHGs and climate change. You can bury your head in your ICE sand as much as you want, climate change is real and its effects will get worse as...

Pay per mile. Another blow for EV drivers

This was always going to happen. It's Economics 101: the drop in revenue from declining receipts from fuel duty has to be made up from somewhere. The OBR released a report in 2022 about this. As long as it's broadly revenue neutral (ICEs revenue loss vs EVs gain) I've no argument. And being very...
