I found the car needs to be plugged in on cold days otherwise the car drops into save 12v battery mode. Meaning the app cannot connect and infotainment system takes longer to start up

Within your Android phone bluetooth settings you can disable the call and media option for the MG bluetooth connection. This may help stabilse your call issues.
I have had this issue with the Sony Experia 5 V ..... I have found the issue is when the phone is over heating and the phones storage is almost full. (rebooting the phone helped to stabilze for short periods)

The key thought here is what speed was your wife driving at?
Was she driving just above the speed limit then just below.
This would cause the symptoms you advised.
As advised the sat nav audio warnings need turning off as well as the car options.
Concerning the app key start feature. You need to connect you phone to the MG_CarKey bluetooth signal.
The feature is ok but clunky and I thinkyou will normally just rollback to using the key.
All working ok for me in Portsmouth area... What is your mobile coverage like in the area you are parked. This can cause issues. Also sometimes you have to wake the car up by locking and unlocking if the car has been parked for sometime.
Just to update.
The attached process worked for me.
Make sure you download your cars nav upgrade manual. As software version maybe different.
Note you will need to usb stick of 32GB formatted fat32. The file I downloaded from the link within the PDF was 15.1GB and unzipped to over 20GB...
Interestingly reached out to MG PR and they advised the following
It would be Naviextras regarding navigation map updates and your dealership regarding keeping the Infotainment system up to date.
I have tried the Naviextras option before this post to no avail... so back to more testing...
