That’s why I put the ?? marks in, weak attempt at ironic humour, I think a later reply is spot on, reduction gear !, hope I have not ruined the reduction gear by using it to much since the noise began, it may simply have needed an oil change, MG seem to know less about some of these problems...

Thanks for the reply, it is going in to the garage next week for inspection,I think you are on the money with the reduction gear, it seems to be the only possible source of mechanical noise, apart from wheel bearings, drive shafts ,tyres. If it needs oil top up, or changing I hope it has not...
