MG4 - How do I turn it off..?

I'm pretty sure this is a bug rather than a deliberate decision. Maybe if enough people complained they'd do something about it. In the thread about sleeping in the MG4, after much complaining and fashioning of covers for the lights (we want to keep the HVAC going so turning the car right off...

    Discharging stops in 3 minutes

Could you expand on that? I don't understand the question.

How Low Can You Go .... (SoC)

Less than 50%? Is that not a typo for 5%? What use is a car that won't handle motorway speeds as soon as it hits 50% charge? Mine is still as sharp as usual right down to 5%. I did notice it slightly less nippy than usual on a steep-ish hill at about 12% when the ambient temperature was very...

Solar Power - Why people ignore your advice

Well, hear me out here. I went to my neighbour, who is an engineer, and asked him if he was happy with his (year-old) PV installation, and with the guy who installed it. He said yes, and presented me with a couple of closely-typed pages about costs and time to recoup these. I said, in that case...

You know there are another six double chargers (and a single one I think) at Tebay on the northbound side, just a couple of minutes drive away?

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

I merely meant that after paying for all the electricity for the house and the car charging, I was nearly £355 ahead of the game due to the amount of solar I exported. Of course I had no electricity bills and no petrol bills. Life's too short to be calculating the whole caboodle, particularly...

Circular reasoning (Rolfe's solar energy system)

I now have the figures for the first full year of operation with the export tariff. Over the 12 months from September 2024 to August 2025 I have made a profit of £354.64. Which I am busy spending on charging the car on road trips through the Electroverse card.

LFP longevity not panning out in the real world?

Over the longer term reports are that batteries are doing a lot better than anticipated, even if there has been a lot of DC charging. I reckon do the best you can, and don't worry about it.

LFP longevity not panning out in the real world?

My April 2023 model was reported as being at 93% (20,000 miles) at the last service, in May. I'm not actually noticing any difference in range at all.

I was actually finished at the dentist (for this round anyway - contrary to my expectation that wasn't the end, I have two more appointments to come, deep joy) about half past twelve and I could have made it, but it was such short notice I had some other things planned, and in any case it was...

Got my charging port replaced and now the yellow battery warning finally isn’t random anymore

They do behave differently. I think it's probably a good idea to do a long charge maybe every year though, regardless of the chemistry. I actually like the SE and could have been interested in an SE X-Power or ER!

    A few minor bugs

I had a test drive in an X-Power with OPD and liked it, but I couldn't honestly tell you what was different. The salesman said the OPD was a harder regen setting than regen 3. I do like the creep through because you can use it to avoid coming to a complete stop at lights or in a queue when you...

    Battery equalisation

No, you misunderstand. This is the MG4 forum. If your ZS does things differently that is merely an interesting observation. It has no bearing on how we manage our MG4s.

    Charging across Europe

It was in 2016 and the boat was called the Marco Polo. We sailed from Leith.

    Glove Box Liner

Me, I'd use a small cotton shopping bag, put everything in that that I wanted in the glove box, and put the entire thing in the glove box. I keep the torch in the door pocket from rattling by wedging it with the rain poncho.

    Battery equalisation

My SE SR always does a balance charge, usually 30-35 minutes, when it gets to 100%. Even if it only started at 98% and did a balance charge earlier in the day. There's absolutely no suggestion that it won't balance unless the low battery warning has come on, that's nonsense.

    Charging across Europe

Nordkapp is fabulous. When I was there it was over 20, cloudless skies and amazing views. I went on a boat. Went on to Svalbard.
  18. Rolfe

    Battery equalisation

I have not found a problem with a normal balance charge at the end of a charging session even if Octopus has interrupted the charge. I can't see why that would make any difference. The <10% to 100% calibration charge ought to be performed in one single charge because of the hysteresis curve. If...

I believe it's held to be more important for LFP, indeed. My GOM is always highly reliable, and I want it to stay that way.

I have heard it said that they paint their kerbstones red, white and blue, though I'm not aware of ever having noticed it. I must have been the last kid in the Lanarkshire Schools Youth Orchestra to realise why the flute lessons were so popular, or what my little friends were doing at weekends...

    A few minor bugs

I had the passenger door handle replaced under warranty, it was hardly used. The driver's side, used all the time, is still going strong on the original. Unfortunately the dealer failed to match the paint exactly when they did the replacement. Slightly irritating.

Larkhall. Where I have to go the day after tomorrow for some fancy dental work. So close to home I have no idea where the chargers are, but the place is such a tip it's always a surprise to me to find there's a hotel there at all!
