My MG4 Trophy is Dangerous. And other Rants

Hi All, If you want to buy a car with a really flakey automated system get a Tesla, MG are just playing at it. https://fortune.com/2022/10/19/tesla-cars-involved-in-10-of-the-11-new-crash-deaths-linked-to-automated-tech-vehicles/ Personally I prefer the Mk1 autopilot me!!!! Ron.

    0% SoC

Agreed 25% is about as far as I'll let mine go for two reasons: - 1) I don't want the hassle of not being able to find a working charger with only a few % left. 2) It doesn't do the battery any good going really low.

    Home Charging Costs

If anyone needs a granny charger that shows power added this one does:- Vorsprung

    Basic EV power explanation

It might be worth mentioning that there is a loss of roughly 15% between what's put in and what the car gets. e.g. for ever 1.15 kWh reported on the charger the car will store 1kWh.

Best granny charger for the price?

Hi, I bought this one a few days ago, works with an MG5 no problem at all and you can select between 6, 8, 10 or 13amp. The display shows charging data including total kWh charged. If you buy in through Amazon you can get it on 0% for a year.

Should I have watched these before I purchased 2 electric cars?

My takeaway from the video's are that electric cars are much more expensive to run if you're a complete moron.

    Smeared Windscreen

For cleaning the inside of the windscreen use a synthetic chamois leather and warm water it works a treat.

How is the MG5 holding up after 12 months and covering 50,000 miles !.

I've had just about the same experience as you. Average annual consumption on my Mg5 Excite SR is 4.5 miles per kWh. Absolutely no problems with it at all. First service was uneventful, battery health was 100% and I've done just over 16k miles. Build quality is excellent. If I was being picky I...

Absence of MG comment means I’ve cancelled

I completely understand where you're coming from. Many years ago I was the head of technical support for Europe's largest independent computer sales and services company. I campaigned with some success for the then largest suppliers to be open about problems because the absence of information...

    Live National Grid Generation Data

I love this website it displays live generation data along with cost. I'd be very interest to here what you guys think when it's displaying a kWh price of 19.322p at peak times! also it's showing that we are exporting 3.5GW at a time they are asking us to cut down our usage. I've included a link...

No more free electrons from Tesco's

Free charging was good while it lasted but we all knew it couldn't last forever.

Someone is on a 'normal' standard tariff, why would they buy an MG4 in this example?

Fun facts, the last time we had this type of economic environment was the 70's. in may of 73 oil was $3.50 a barrel by August of 78 it was $15 a barrel and peaked at $35 a barrel in September of 81. This was a 1,000% increase in just over 8 years!

Someone is on a 'normal' standard tariff, why would they buy an MG4 in this example?

UK petrol prices peaked at £1.91 on the 4th of July ish. Oil price was $110 a barrel, £/$ exchange rate was 1.21 to the dollar, since then the pound has fallen 8%. Just using todays exchange rate at $110 that give you a petrol price of £2.06. When the pound hits parity with the dollar with oil...

    Old Cars

I'm sure everyone has one car they fell in love with, this is mine a 1600GT facelift I paid £1050 for. What a cracking car this was, 0 to 60 11.4 seconds :) but you know what it had character. I'd have it back as my everyday driver in a heart beat. It eventually died after owning it for 7 years...
