AIUI you can have the vehicle serviced at any independent VAT registered garage and not void the warranty. The exception to this could be if you've bought an extended warranty, which may include a condition that you have the vehicle serviced at a nominated dealer.

Under what circumstances would you heat the battery? E.G. I'm at work and it's a 20 mile journey home (car not charging). If I pre-heat the battery before I leave, would the extra efficiency offset the charge used in heating the battery?

Whenever a modern car does anything at all the onboard computer will log it, so yes, MG will know if they read the logs. I expect this will be done at servicing. Whether it'll affect the warranty is another matter.
