    MG S5 software version thread

If you don't know these things, & can't find the answer elsewhere, you either ask the question or stay silent. I've never had a problem being the one person in the room that puts my hand up. I thought I'd seen talk of an R27 version, but maybe that's associated with another model.

    Three Months In An S5

I'm not getting these problems, but I'd be interested to know if your software version is the same or different from mine; Thread 'MG S5 software version thread' MG S5 software version thread If your version is different, it could be software. If its the same, then it doesn't prove anything...

    Three Months In An S5

If you leave the car for a few hours (e.g. overnight) & then measure:- ~12.6 - 12.8V > Healthy ~12.2 - 12.4V > weak When "on" >= 13.8V is normal due to active DC/DC converter. Also bear in mind that low cost multimeter's have a +/- 1 count tolerance in addition to a +/-% figure. i.e. if...

Dashcam doesn't start up after a short rest

I use a fairly short USB cable with right-angled connectors on both ends. This keeps the wiring neat & tidy, with the cable 'restricted' within the rearview mirror area. I don't know if the orientation of the USB A connector is standardised (i.e. left or right handed) but check before you buy...

    New EV - advice please

My first 'long' trip is coming up soon. I want to use Electroverse such that I can stop after (say) 2hrs for a coffee & charge break. I expected that putting in a waypoint would allow me to do that, but can't at the monument see how that's done. (I get the stop, but not a suggestion for...

    New EV - advice please

Yes in principle. I'm no expert, but you could probably draw a Max of 3.3kW from an S5. You cannot 'back-feed' the power into the house unless you get a "sparks" to wire in the necessary interface. But you could use extension leads to power a few selected devices; fridge, TV, computer... up to...

    New EV - advice please

This illustrates how IOG can give you cheaper electricity outside the guaranteed cheap period... During the evening of the 19th, it gave us 4 half-hour slots at the cheap rate.

    New EV - advice please

So a few things to know about charging... The advice, if you want to take good care of your EV battery, is to keep topping it up to 80% for day-to-day (local) use. Don't let it 'sit around' at 100% or leave it less than 20%. The sweet range is 20 - 80%. If you are going on a long journey, then...

    New S5 Owner checking in

It does trouble me, that people living in short term lets (like my son) will/do have problems with EV ownership, especially in properties with no off-street parking. Even using a granny lead is not always possible if you can't get your car close enough to a suitable 13A socket. A few years ago...

    New S5 Owner checking in

There could be issues under 'home owners responsibilities' such as Neglect; 'failing to deal with signs of defect' (e.g. a socket that gets very hot when in use) or Duty of Care; if a 3rd party is injured. Either way, to be sure to be covered, a BS1363/EV socket should be fitted including a...

    New S5 Owner checking in

I struggle to understand why someone would spend 10s of thousands on an electric car, but then avoid spending £1k on a proper home charger! Apart from the convenience, an intelligent charger with an intelligent tariff will save you money; a quick fag-packet estimate; a 50% charge 3 times a week...

Long motorway round trip in MG S5EV – Update after completing the trip

As we are due to do our first non-local trip next week (Bognor to Liverpool) here are a few very simple questions; - power of each charger? - time spent charging at each charger? - did chargers accept regular credit card payments? Many thanks.

    No 4G signal

Using a combination of ChatGPT and following up various ref links, this appears to be the situation regarding the MG S5 ev internet services. Note: iSmart is both the name of the phone App and the name of the car's internal comms system. - MG use a large IoT (Internet of Things) company...

    No 4G signal

No, I can't believe anyone does that. We use navigation, which I guess is a combination of GPS (free) and internet derived data. Also use iNotSoSmart as the car is new to us, so still playing with this feature. I would love to have an accurate understanding of how internet access is provided...

    No 4G signal

Mine was almost useless 2 days ago, but the following day it was OK. I don't think it has anything to do with 2G-4G. Its more likely a hosting/server issue.

Dashcam doesn't start up after a short rest

I'm sorry, I have to ask this (don't take offence) but are you happy that the camera is not just in screen saver mode. We had a webcam that use to run on for 5 or more minutes after power off, due to a small internal battery. But the screen was black until you woke it up.

    Three Months In An S5

Not me. When I'm parking the car & suddenly realise I might be upsetting my lovely neighbours, I want a reliable way to turn down the volume. The problem with steering wheel controls is that they are only in the right place when the wheels are centralised. In contrast, I never need to change...

Interesting, which Skoda model do you have?

Question of the removal of the inner panel on the tailgate.

It seems to me that modern reversing lights are only really used as a warning to others that you are, or intend to, reverse the car. If you are often in situations where its pitch black, it may be worth wiring a suitable flood light to a simple switch that you operate only when you need to. This...

Long motorway round trip in MG S5EV – practical charging strategy & costs

Now that's interesting as I didn't think I'd get the card until there'd fitted my smart meter (due 18th Dec) & switched my tariff. I'll get right onto it!

Long motorway round trip in MG S5EV – practical charging strategy & costs

Thanks, this is both interesting & helpful to me, as I still haven't entered the world of 'public charging'. Our longest round trip so far was about 190 miles, and having started with 99% & achieved 4.1m/kWh, we easily got back home with about 36% still 'in the tank'. However, our first long...

    MG S5: first impressions

Although we still have only had our S5 a few weeks (6 actually!) we are still very happy with it, and the concept of electric vehicles. If fact, we never want to own another noisy, dirty diesel/petrol/LPG powered car again, ever! Almost all the cars & vans I've owned in 55 years of driving have...

    Interrelated UI Questions

A couple of days ago I put the S5 into Sport mode for the first time, pressed the pedal-to-the-metal, and accidentally swallowed all my fillings! Yes, Sport mode gives you a 0-60 of about 6 seconds ...it should be illegal.

    MG S5 software version thread

Looks like we are all using the same versions, so far! I'm still not sure if there should be other software listed: e.g. does the User Interface software have its own version, or is this all included in the TBOX package?

    Merry Xmas MGS5

I agree. But then ...DAB is crap anyway. And FM on my S5 is not great either. Its either less sensitive or not switching to a stronger transmitter when going through a weaker reception area, e.g. when I drive through Storrington, its noisy on Radio 4. That wasn't the case in our old Yeti, but...

MG iSmart: odd range & percent issue

I'm only doing the steps in my first post, but the next time I do a charge, in a few days time, I'll take a close look at both the iSmart & car display. I suspect its just a refresh/update issue with iSmart, e.g. the main iSmart screen is not properly updating after the SoC reaches its target...

MG iSmart: odd range & percent issue

I may be loosing my mind! Only had our S5 a few weeks, but noticed something odd; I normally charge to 80% & check iSmart main screen when its finished. It typically reads 214 or 216 miles. I refresh screen, & it still gives same mileage. But if I then select EV Management screen, remaining...

    MG S5 software version thread

Reading a few posts this morning, users are of the opinion that Over the Air software updates have not been implemented, & that maybe, the 'software is up to date' message can't be trusted. It also appears that some user-interfaces may operate differently to others. So I thought I'd post my...
