My Citroen eC4 needed a software update. I downloaded the official Citroen Update app for Mac, it fetched the update and wrote it to a USB key. I put the key in the car and it installed the updates. Both firmware and maps. So easy.

So confident I’m literally sat in in a Hyundai dealer right now.

They claimed that everything under the bonnet was sopping wet and needed drying out so it was our fault. I didn’t have the energy to argue so I paid the man and left. You can choose to visit MG Peterborough in future, or not, as you see fit.

I’m picking it up tomorrow morning. I guess they either found a way to clear the remaining codes or MG told them they were safe to ignore. The bill is £330 but I’m definitely going to ask why it isn’t a warranty repair on a detective vehicle.

Dealer says they put a new 12V battery on it and it’s mostly fixed. But there’s still a few codes they don’t understand. I’m baffled as to why, and £280 poorer so far (plus the £300 hire car). Edit: ok apparently it fixed itself but they want to put a new battery on it? I have no idea what is...

Dealer looked at it today. They can’t clear the fault codes and have no idea what’s wrong with it. They are waiting on a response from MGUK.

If water has gotten into the battery on a 3.5 year old car with FMGSH then surely that’s a warranty claim?

Ok, interesting development. The infotainment unit now no longer responds to fan speed. The AC button, the heater dial and the first notch on the fan (fan on/off) cause the screen to temporarily show the heater settings (it’s an Excite so no climate control, only AC). Hey look, it’s fixed! Only kidding. I was sat in another pre-facelift MG5 at Peterborough MG whilst having mine serviced. Of course all three of my phones work perfectly in this car. Just not in my car. Perhaps this is enough to convince MG that I do not need to “find a compatible phone”.

Four weeks later the radio goes back in. Same firmware version, apparently it’s just the “config” they’ve updated. And it doesn’t bleeding work. $€#%$! At least I know how to get in to the secret menu now, then the secret secret menu within that. I wrote to MG to complain, and they got back...

Still no radio. We called and they said they still don’t have a courtesy car for us and they still don’t know when it’ll be back. Apparently MG have a backlog, which they Donalds either didn’t think to ask about before taking our radio out, or knew but took it out anyway.
