I have investigated this on my drive this morning.
It's actually "Comfort" that switches off OPD. Even if Custom has OPD set to on, once it is switched off by Comfort, no other mode switches it on again.
Unless someone has found something different, mine always starts in Normal, I use a steering wheel button to change it to Sport, but I then have to leave it, so as not to go through Custom and lose OPD.
I'm afraid I consider life too short for both those options. It's only a sodding car!!
And anyway, the grandchildren have put muddy shoes all over the backs of the front seats, so I may have to get rid of it anyway 🤣
It doesn't have a screen. The only way I know whether it's working is a little LED which is either solid (meaning it is working and knows its GPS position and therefore speed) or flashing (meaning that it records video, but not speed.)
If the LED doesn't light up at all, it means that it is...
You'll be delighted to know that I got my first major dose of this just now. I was forced into the hedge by a stupidly fast white van driver.
My new car now looks like a battered old wreck, so I don't need to worry any more.
I had my dashcam professionally fitted, so please don't ask any questions about which line or fuse it's attached to.
If I get into the car in a normal scenario (first thing in the morning, for example) it just starts, and it just works.
But if I switch the car off, go into a shop, do a little...
In the Audi it was always on if the door mirror switch was in the middle between left movement and right movement.
I had no idea the rear demist switched them on, thank you, I will try that in future.
