How does that mistake even happen? Do you use both feet to drive?
My left foot is firmly planted on the left side and I've never confused the brake vs the accelerator with my right one in 17 years of driving.
The worst I've done in my MG4 is trying to hit the clutch with my left foot (twice) :)
Sorry, I edited my reply, read the second paragraph. The VCU is prepared to handle this and avoid the strain. While we have no clue what happens if you apply brake and throttle at the same time, it's not built for it.
That's where you're wrong, fast acceleration or braking with recuperation puts much more stress on the reduction gear. Coasting in neutral just disconnects the motor / lowers the resistance, but the only force on the reduction gear is its own inertia when you then brake with the friction brakes...
You can just put it into Neutral for that, then it's 100% friction brakes on the MG4. What they are proposing is braking while having the motor trying to accelerate at the same time. Which I guess can work, but when I read about it it seems risky and very taxing for the components 🤷
I'm...
I researched this a bit more and this seems like a terrible idea. It can quickly overheat the discs or even damage components (they are not made to accelerate while fighting against the brakes).
So I guess I'll stick to braking hard a few times or switching to Neutral (:
I also highly doubt that the car just accelerated when put into reverse. My take (as MG4 owner): When you come to a rolling stop and you try to select reverse too soon the car might refuse (with a warning tone). If you're not in a hurry you'll definitely notice that and the car stays in D mode...
I mean I like the idea of ODP in theory, but you already mentioned a major downside: You can't use it all the time. Consistency is key for me while driving.
Besides things other people reported: Stopping on a hill with ODP can have the car lurch backwards.
Personally for me my foot starts...
Generally this is the reason I'm not using OPD (One Pedal Driving) with my MG4 Luxury. You get way too used to playing with the accelerator and develop no muscle memory for the brake pedal.
When it comes to parking I'm constantly on the brake and just use the creep mode when lifting off...
DRLs and the backlights.. which never turn off then. So a perfect way to kill your battery.
Bit of a bummer, but I moved to manually switching on/off my lights. Would have been nice if it's automatic when the wipers are on at least.
Nope! It keeps the daylight lights on in front and the lights in the back.
Not sure if it has a maximum time for that, I didn't wait longer than 2 minutes after locking.
Can do, it's just really risky. When you switch it on manually and then forget to turn it off you don't even get a warning sound :-/
Might drain your battery
When keeping the headlights on "Auto" they unfortunately don't turn on on cloudy and rainy days (too much light I guess).
Not a big deal in the front due to the bright daylight LEDs, but the back of the car is totally dark.
Is there any trick to get the lights in the back working? Or do you...
