Tutorial for updating maps on ZS EV Gen 2 (avoiding mgmotor.eu)

I bet on the annoyings .DS_Store files created by "finder".

Try to recursively delete this files from "terminal" or, but I never used it, this software
Yup, already tried all of those with no luck. It's no big deal, I have Here maps on my phone and it works via AA too, so nothing lost. The dealer can update it next time it's in for one of it's regular trips to fix the next thing that's gone wrong.

I lost the bet 😅

I wonder though why the mere presence of unnecessary files would confuse the map software.
The problem seems to be an incorrect MD5 checksum of the directory contents (or a part of it).

My (incorrect) assumption was a possible use of programs like hashdeep or md5sumd where a single (additional) empty file inside the checked directory (or sub-directory) can give a negative result.

Theoretically my MG ZS EV (Luxury SR) arrives at the end of August (theoretically), so I don't have a valid VIN for download the update file, but i'm wondering what is the content of the file File_index.xls mentioned by @hmadsen in this post:

The RAR file contains one folder "Maps"

This folder contains a folder and 2 files

Folder : TelenavMapData

File : File_index.xls

File : Version.txt

could it contain the hashes it compares against?

The other possibility that comes to mind is that perhaps on Macs and Linux, text files decompress with a line ending of a single carriage return (Mac) or linefeed (Linux), but on Windows they decompress with both carriage return (0x0D) and linefeed (0x0A). Obviously, this will completely change the hash value, as the hash program treats the file as a sequence of octets (8-bit bytes).

Edit: someone savvy with hex editors could perhaps confirm.

Looks like MG have updated their website and added instructions as well as a new file. Looking at the size it looks exactly the same size as the previously provided.

They Pretty Much look the same process at least Comfort is in English?

@lusitano
Many thanks for the info, and I think even I would be able to follow the instructions! I consider myself reasonably ‘techy’, but I don’t always understand the jargon 😄
Can I ask where you found this? I looked on the mg.co.uk website, and couldn’t see anything about nav updates.

Just compared both files the one provided by MG and the one posted here, same, so it looks like they just reuploaded it with instructions that is all. The luxury edition PDF doesn't seem to have a link that you click on, but instructions are the same if you translate them.

It was from the mgmotors eu as posted on the OPs link, this is not available in the UK site.

quick one, i assume the Trophy connect will give live traffic update on their maps, but how about Trophy models? would the map warn you about traffic jams and re-route?

I just updated maps on my 2022 ZS EV, they are now Q1 2022

This is how it's done

1. go to this website User manuals - Recharge yourself
2. Enter your VIN

1. Go to this website to Download map file
2. Link is for a free Mega account, maybe they have limits, please contact me if the link stops working.
3. Download the MAP update file (14 Gbyte)
4. The file you downloaded is compressed with RAR, it contains one folder "maps" which you need to decompress (Find decompression program at WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files)
5. Copy the folder "maps" onto a 32 GB or larger USB thumbdrive, make sure the "maps" folder is in the root of the drive and nothing else is on there
6. Insert the thumbdrive into your car's USB-A socket, power on the car, and go to settings / system and select "Update maps and VR data"
7. The car will say "Getting info" for up to 5 minutes after which it will let you continue
8. After continuing, the car will say "Checking MD5 hashes" and after a minute or 2 it will start the copy process. Expect 30 minutes for this operation.
9. When it finishes it will shortly say "Checking MD5 hash" again, after which it will prompt you to end the process, and it will then reboot the radio.

You now have the latest maps. :)
I am afraid the link stopped working at 5gb.
I don’t fancy commitments to a monthly sub. It says I can resume again after about five hours. Is there any other way to download the file.

For some reason the luxury German version doesn’t let me download any files, but the English one does. Anyone else having this issue? Also sorry for the double post. Internet went mad XD
