I have 2 cars of similar size etc, A Skoda Octavia estate and an MG5 LR. Neither my wife or I have had any trouble parking the Skoda neatly but both of us find that with the MG, whether we go in forwards or backwards, we always end up at an angle in the parking space however hard we try to get it straight.
I have looked at the alignment of the reversing camera which seems to be slightly skewed but this wouldn't explain why we have difficulty going in forwards.
Are we alone in noticing this or has anyone else experienced it?

We have an Octavia and swapped our Fabia for a MG 5. I have reversed into a van and a wall in the 5 I don't use the camera anymore 🙄

im glad its not just me! i havent been able to pinpoint why, but i always park the MG squint!

im perfectly cable (ish :D ) of parking any other car but even after a year of ownership i still end up squint

i thought it was just me, so thanks for atleast giving me some of my sanity back

all ideas welcomed.

I too had an Octavia estate that i could reverse in my sleep 1st time every time.
Then a 320d estate, always ended up too wide for the arc in and had to do a2 try.
I can get the mg5 in 1st time but end up closer to the passenger side than i would like. I only use the camera for assistance and use the mirrors like i previously did.

Same.
I suspect it's something to do with the shape of the bodywork - it seems to block your view of the ground nearby more than most cars that I've driven before it.

I'm parking this easier and straighter than previous cars, but my judgement of where the front is is always a yard or more out. E.g. I stop because I think I'm about to hit our garage yet you could drive a (extremely small) bus through the gap!! :)

I'm taking a bit of time to get used to edging forward as if the handbrake automatically goes on it comes off with a bit of a jerk, and I feel I'm going to leap forward and damage something...

Hi all, I have had the Peugeot 306 estate, then the Skoda Octavia estate, with no problems as I remember, then I got the Skoda Superb estate that was brilliant, as the wing mirrors on that Tilted down a little when you put the car into reverse to help you with parking, really great idea when reversing that was, but the MG5 must admit once or twice I have had to reposition but not very often, and I never use the camera really, but it can be helpful in the dark if it’s not raining I have found anyhow not hit anything as yet touch wood.

I drove a Passat the other day and found it was easier to park than the MG, something about the wing mirrors, it appears as if you can see more in the Passat that the MG when bay parking. Though the MG's camera does help finalizing the parking.

Having compared the two cars carefully the main difference is that the MG bonnet has a crease nearly in line with the drivers forward view which is slightly angled to the straight forward line. The skoda bonnet has creases but they are much more angled and less in the drivers eye line.
So I suspect that the driver is fooled into thinking the crease should be lined up in the parking space rather than the car itself. Perhaps some go faster stripes running straight down the bonnet would sort me out?

Always made me laugh that i had a SSANGYONG 7 seater before the MG5 and could park that perfectly but I'm always commenting on the fact i can't park the MG in a parking bay, it's okay parallel parking on the road but give me a parking bay and it's all over

And me!

That’s very helpful. Thanks!

Thought it was only me who couldn't park straight. My wife, who is a non driver, looks and just shakes her head. Good to know I'm not the only one 😂

I have the same problem after 2 weeks. If I use the camera I'm wonky in one direction, if I use the mirrors I'm wonky in the other.
I have the same problem in the wife's puma, because the lower window frame is on quite a severe angle. The MG is also not completely level whereas my Passat i could put a spirit level on!
I suspect I will be ignoring the camera for the most part and get used to the mirrors.
On a related note I'm also parking way too far back on account of the flat nose, but that's not a bad thing as this car is shorter than the Passat so I'm just getting used to not having to park 2 inches off the wall/car/bin in front of me!

I too ended up slightly wonky between the lines - I rarely use the camera anymore except to judge how far back I am in conjuction with the parking sensors and, for my car, when the back of the bay or the kerb is nearly at the bottom of the screen, I know I am in.
As for parking nose in, I do wish it had come with front parking sensors as well as rear ones. I have several times had to move the car forward a bit more. But every additional feature is extra cost and the value for money of the MG5 is pretty good.

What I learned from my HGV training, find an empty car park or somewhere with a straight white line. Using the mirrors reverse along the white line and note a part of the side of the vehicle that stays parallel with the white line as you're reversing then use this to keep the vehicle straight.
